This is the best post of the season!Debatable. You don't know Mort.
Based on these injuries, we need a new medical staff as well. May I recommend my physician, Dr. Vinnie Boombatz?

Where is the offense? We don’t run the offense that was so successful last year! This team needs some offensive structure, there is too much 1-on-1 with the other 4 guys standing around watching and we don’t have anyone who is great with the ball in his hands to beat his man. Successful offenses have both ball and player movement. We have little of either thus far and will not be successful offensively until we incorporate these concepts.I get it if they miss shots, but where is the Pope offense that generates all those good looks and backdoor layups? We even saw it in the Purdue game, then it vanished.
I think his weakness is he does not relate to today's kids. I have never heard him complete a sentence without using hyperboles. To be honest, he is a strange cat for a basketball coach.Just strikes me as a straight up, honest dude. I think if he has any "weakness" as a recruiter, its that he won't guarantee HS kids starting roles. He gets bashed on here for that, which is really kinda funny, since most of the people criticizing him are the same ones who ripped Cal for promising the DJ Wagners of the world starting jobs and sticking to it
Agree with both shot discipline and hero ball.you would have thought against Purdue they were going to be lights out.
well...we did think that, even knowing that Purdue's coach didn't care if his team won or not.
I really belive UK's bad shooting is a combination of this team having no shot discipline and resorting to hero ball.
the latter is easier to fix than the first because you never want to tell a shooter not to take the shot, but they do have to understand the game enough to realize the probabilities.
UK *could* be a 7-21 type 3 point shooting team, but its going to take them working to be that team - and its not about working on your shot after practice at the gym, its about trusting your teammates and doing the work necessary off ball.
Against Gonzaga they didn't trust the other teammates would make a good ball decision, and it showed.
Nobody on the team can shoot when we are not playing a JV team. The JVs pay a price when we play them following a beat down by a decent team.I can hope! I didn't think that 2014 would ever become a decent shooting team but sure enough, late in the year, we started making shots!
But you're right, I don't see it happening with this team unfortunately. We need Kam Williams to totally flip and be a super reliable, knock-down shooter and I'm not seeing it so far.
I don't agree with that at all. Seems like a pretty good dude. You think Scott Drew relates to 17 year old inner city kids lol?I think his weakness is he does not relate to today's kids. No and Scott Drew is also an awkward nerd. Are we looking to hire a coach or a preacher? Good griefI don't agree with that at all. Seems like a pretty good dude. You think Scott Drew relates to 17 year old inner city kids lol?
The evil empire. Our best coaches of my lifetime have been Pitino and Calipari. Two of the shadiest coaches you'll ever come across. And IT WAS GREAT. We are the bad guys of college hoops. Idk when we decided we needed a coach who's a "good principled God-fearing man" but it's lame af. Reeks of Barnhart
Pointing out Drew recruits just fine. Do does PopeNo and Scott Drew is also an awkward nerd. Are we looking to hire a coach or a preacher? Good grief
Yes better than Pope. I think Pope is one of the most awkward dudes in basketball. A great guy and I would love for him to mentor my son as a person, but if i wanted someone to teach him basketball, Pope is definitely not someone i would call. The top recruits want a basketball coach, not a statistics professor.I don't agree with that at all. Seems like a pretty good dude. You think Scott Drew relates to 17 year old inner city kids lol?
We don't run last year's offense because there's no Amari Williams on this team .. even Amari wasn't perfect because his shot from 3 was just average at best .. but you had to guard him .. and he was a great passer and he could drive in his man. And he had multiple reliable shooters to pass to. This team doesn't fit Pope's offense and that's his fault. Now was there someone available to be that guy at the top of the key? Maybe not. The real question is how flexible is MP. He's going to have to grow as a coach especially in recruiting guys that fits what he wants to do. Player evaluation is at a premium .. Does he and his staff have the skills needed for that; or maybe, the better question is will they do the work required to properly evaluate and find the right guys. Time will tell but so far the additions of Lowe, Jelavic and Williams seem to have been misses. I like Johnson, Moreno, and JQ (altho the jury is still out on him). You know MP wants to succeed and he will definitely give it his best shot. Fans can wonder and doubt if he can do it but that has no bearing on it.Where is the offense?
