Exactly where is this offense you speak of? Cal had to go, period! Pope was also a bad hire. Both can be true. Barnhart couldn’t get a top coach and the board screwed us saying he couldn’t offer Pearl, Miller and maybe one more.

I didn't want it. I have NEVER wanted too much focus on three-point shooting. I want a coach who is tough, intense and coaches both ends of the floor.
Where is the Pope from last year who made effective adjustments at half time of games? The guy who beat Duke and Gonzaga with adjustments? UL and Sparty were both better than us in the second half of both games.

“One of our own” is the worst possible reason to hire a coach. Pope had a mediocre at best resume and its being reflected in recruiting and wins. The only measure.
4 straight losses to finish…makes me wish he kept doing whatever he did the first half of his career.
I remember watching UK obliterate KU in this game years back and amazed how 10 guys could play so well together. There wasn’t a player on the floor that didn’t want to see his teammate show out. We probably had a player or two that had as many points as their entire team at half (not really, but that’s what it felt like).

Well Kentucky used to be a lttle more protective of BB than football ...CMP seat could be getting warm if this season flops with the money spent. Idk that mitch would cut ties this year but year 3 would be a put up or shut up with any other AD. Should be this year but we know how that'll go.

Brother, they played no defense and jacked up a bunch of 3s in the 1st half. I will agree adjustments were made in the 2nd half, but it didnt last long. Pope should feel the heat for this performance at the Gardens. The guy cant recruit to begin with

Honestly though, the issues have been going much deeper than just a lack of a point guard. Our defensive fundamentals have been nonexistent in particular in the games against actual competition so far.
So why do we not have a point guard? You have to have backups and we do not have one.
Actually none of us wanted or expected this. We had hit a rut with Cal. Pope seemed like the energized battery we needed. I had such high hopes for this team but with reports of in fighting and players personalities and off campus lifestyles I don’t think he can restore the program. He doesn’t have the Bruce Pearl mentality or personality to control this team. Also remember even though we were tired of Cal’s antics he chose to leave.
This isn't what anyone wanted. We were sick of Cal in every respect and he had to go. We didn't want what Popes delivering either. We wanted a Coach that could recruit, coach, make adjustments and talk to the fans with some level of transparency and respect.
I know you ain’t insinuating ole jockstrap John was doing any better. Dude literally didn’t win a single post season game in 5 years, and had the worst season in our history, along with the worst losses in our history. This is all on Mitch. That fecal faced *** head, gives out mind boggling contracts, and hires people like Gillespie and pope at the winningest program in the sport. I love pope, maybe he can turn it around idk, but his resume isn’t up to Kentucky standards.

First month of year 2 and some are already done with Pope. Some don’t deserve a good team for the way they act.

But the niceness of him, and lack of defense is a concern. I do want to see what changes he can make. Someone might need to be excused from the team, maybe a new assistant coach, and mitch needs to go

It was after covid... who gives a ****?! We had a stud team and then an awful team... You cant help that. Thats not Cals fault. I just prefer Talent > experience.. Might not win the Natty often but
