A friend who lives in LA is a huge Yankee fan, having been born and raised in the Bronx. He's a long-time sports gambler and has followed not only MLB but the NFL and the NBA as well as men's college basketball. He's never watched women's basketball until the last few weeks when I kept urging him to give Caitlin Clark and the Hawkeyes a chance. He did, and he enjoyed what he saw . . . until today. Here's part of the unsolicited text he sent me shortly after the end of today's farce: "This may have been the worst officiated game I have ever seen. And the INSANE technical foul changed the entire game. But I intend to follow Caitlin and Iowa next season."

He's a casual fan of women's basketball at best. He has no connection to Iowa. But like many of us, he's seen more than his share of college and professional sports. And he knows BS when he sees it. Just thought I'd pass that along.

Thanks for the post. My thoughts are that LSU was the better team yesterday on that day. They shot a very high percentage, controlled the boards, and played solid defense. I thought the Hawks were a bit tired from beating the #1 team and it showed. LSU showed no class whatsover and why Mulkey doesn't get T'd up immediately I will never understand. I will take the runner up finish happily. Our team left it all on the floor and Lisa and her staff are all class. LSU may have won yesterday but I wouldn't trade programs for anything.

I don’t ever watch women’s basketball but I did tune in yesterday and made it through one quarter. The officiating was down right atrocious. I understand it got worse as the game progressed, which is just mind-boggling. Holy crap. I don’t think I will ever again complain about officiating in men’s basketball.

I will add that I’ve never heard anything nice said about the LSU coach. She is the one that coached Griner at Baylor, right? Seeing her on television for one quarter yesterday, my word. Talk about eccentric. And her whining antics would make Tom Izzo blush.

The whole thing was just bush league.
