NCAA finalists ends, possibly. Kind of a funny thing to hang your hat on, but a cool statistic anyway. Big deal?
Its a huge deal and a testament to how good Iowa wrestling has been through the years. 35 years in a row is a long time. I think its 49 out of the last 50 going back to 1975. It really hinges on how healthy Angelo is and his seeding/bracket path. Right now MC has slipped to 4th which means he'd get MM in the semis. Drake is a wildcard. He has a lot of March magic behind him but 133 is a brutal weight class this year and he hasn't wrestled up to his own standards.NCAA finalists ends, possibly. Drake is a wrestling much better than earlier in the year, but that weight class is a literal tossup. There's like 7-8 guys that wouldn't shock me if they made the finals - depending on seeding and all. Which means QFs have the potential to be as good as Semis in other weights. Its a huge deal and a testament to how good Iowa wrestling has been through the years. 35 years in a row is a long time. I have Iowa at 1.1 expected finalists with Ferrari leading the way at 48.1% chance of making the finals (assuming recovery), followed by Kennedy (28.7%) and Caliendo (17.1%).
He is still #3 in both Intermat and Flo. If he is the #3 seed come tournie time, then yeah, 28.7%28.7%….![]()

That would change the narrative pretty quick.Caliendo needs to avenge his loss to Docket this weekend.
I really hope dt doesn't duck lockett. I watched that caliendo lockett match again last night and think caliendo can definitely beat him and should have a chance to get the 3rd seedIts a huge deal and a testament to how good Iowa wrestling has been through the years. 35 years in a row is a long time. Wondered where you were madden. Good to see you it's that time of yearIf Caliendo beats Lockett (assuming Lockett goes) and then beats Blaze at Big 10's, he would most likely be the 2 or 3 seed at Nationals.
It would be a cowardly thing to do which hurts MC. Mikey would still need to finish at least second or lockett crapping the bed in his conference matches if the duck happens.I really hope dt doesn't duck lockett. Edited to correct Lockett's name, if anyone cares.. OSU will probably sit Lockett. Thats the thinking now correct
Cowardly and strategic are two different things. He won the first time, so he holds the cards. It would be a cowardly thing to do which hurts MC. Mikey would still need to finish at least second or lockett crapping the bed in his conference matches if the duck happens.
How is the weight class a “literal tossup”. Do they throw the weight class up in the air? I’m confused.Drake is a wrestling much better than earlier in the year, but that weight class is a literal tossup. Love cali but i didnt see much of his chances scoring at last match. Lockett had more good attacks and close TDs by 2-4 more. Cali didnt seem right that match. Lockett was taking time getting set over over! I think if i were cali i put pace in overdrive early and gas lockett. If he doesnt he wont win.Cowardly and strategic are two different things. He won the first time, so he holds the cards.
You bet we care... gotta respect Lokett and get his name right!Caliendo needs to avenge his loss to Lockett this weekend.

So he's sitting. What's our next concern, aside from a shitload of poor seeds in the postseason?I think a lot of it will come down to what weight they start at and what the team score is going into that match. I am sure DT wants that dual win BADLY. If he truly needs Lockett to win the dual, I would expect him to wrestle. If they are far ahead, I wouldn't be shocked if he sits him...
Even an old Lion fan finds that streak absolutely astonishing.35 years in a row is a long time.
Iowa doesn't have any choice but to bring in "NIL guys". And 2 of those should go to replace the 2 they brought in last year. This year, there are a lot of guys who can do it. Next year it’s literally only Angelo unless we start bringing in NIL guys.
Add in the leverage and it will give him power which I'm sure he won't use.Even an old Lion fan finds that streak absolutely astonishing.
Four reasonable chances to extend, a healthy Angelo the clear best bet.
I hear ya. I mean as easy as it is to make the Finals at the toughest tournament in the world for Folkstyle wrestling, who cares if you have at least one make it for 30+ years. Nothing to see here….This is the dumbest record and I hate that they mention it at least 15 times every year at NCAA’s.
No. The dumbest record is Nebraska Football’s home “sellout” streak. This is the dumbest record and I hate that they mention it at least 15 times every year at NCAA’s.
It’s more, who cares about finalist as opposed to champions.I hear ya. I mean as easy as it is to make the Finals at the toughest tournament in the world for Folkstyle wrestling, who cares if you have at least one make it for 30+ years. Nothing to see here….

It’s the 2nd hardest accomplishment in the entire sport. But hey, you fully embraced the Ricky Bobby gif, so there is that…It’s more, who cares about finalist as opposed to champions.
Also, it’s brought up 15 times at NCAA’s as a “is this the year Iowa fails” as opposed to “look at their great success”
