The referee in the championship sure appeared biased with the calls. But the worse part of the weekend was the "independent" reviews. Both Cali and Angelo looked to get hosed by them. If Brands feels like Hawks aren't going to get a fair shake, maybe the wont go back despite the dirty money. Paycom going to have to clean this up.

I wouldn’t recommend mistaking incompetence for corruption.

Ironside usually says very little about the refs. He’s fair. Calls it like he sees it and puts the onus on the wrestlers. But he was hot during this dual. It all started at 125 with a couple calls including back points he thought was obvious for Peterson. But it was when the match ended that Ironside about lost it. He said the ref gave Spratley a pat on the tush and emphatically said a ref should never do that. Shows bias. Unsurprisingly the calls continued to heavily favor OSU.

I only watched the finals and Iowa's 197 was ripped off. He looked like he pinned the OSU guy at least twice. He IMO (Endene or is it Endeme) is an AA candidate with a high ceiling.

He even called the ref out 1 time saying it was blatantly obvious

The block action call was horrible, that was going to be 3 + backpoints. Dual still would've been out of hand but Block looked great.
Actually it wouldn't have been out of hand. It would have been tied going into the Hwt. Match. It was 21 to 12 going into the final match. If Block wins, its 18 to 15 and if Mo gets the pin call, which was missed the score would have been ties at 18. (The replay showed the Ohio St wrestler flat on his back twice in that 2 or 3 second flurry when the referee was running around the legs of the wrestlers to get to the other side. He literally left a position where he could see clearly what was happening to get into a position that was equal at best. We may have lost the meet anyway, but the reality is it wasn't out of hand.,

Totally agree guys. If those nit picky refs didn’t make us lose by fall, 6 points, 1 point, Tech Fall, major decision and a forfeit. We could have stolen this one.

Godamn refs really stole this one from us. If only we didn’t get f****ed those first 5 super close matches!!
Irrelevant. There are ten matches not 5.

An entire thread about refs. My gawd, maybe start a stalling thread. Lol. Better yet, maybe start a thread on how to score more points, attack more, and get some turns! I watched all of iowa's duals this weekend, and the refs are the least of their issues. Tons of talent there...but the refs aren't the issue.

It’s 100% why Block lost, and it likely will affect where he’s seeded come March. Ferrari battled through, but something flukey easily could happen there and if he loses, well now his seeding is affected in March. I literally haven’t seen one poster say or even slightly imply that’s why WE (the team) lost. And it wasn’t just this dual, Caliendo lost on a f’n terrible call. Does he end up winning, who knows, but that call was criminal to end the match
the call on the first take down was equally bad. Has anyone figured out if Brands was right about Lockett having 3 cautions?

I'm with liberty on this one unless i completely brain farted too, but I could swear I saw three cautions on lockett too. Shocked this wasn't verified officially or at least on Twitter or something. I wasn't able to re-watch it and check. I'm not saying he did or didn't absolutely and caliendo gave that away regardless. Zero excuses, Im questioning what I thought I saw the refs signal.

The refs were an issue. But that doesn't mean posters are saying it is THE issue. Two things can be true at once.

I get the can’t back off the mat stall calls. IF they are truly backing off the mat and not being forced backwards. What I disagree with is when the ref is telling them to get back to middle or circle and they are trying to do so, but the opponent is blocking them from doing that and then they call stalling. That doesnt make any sense. Also Voinivich was warned for stalling when we was in the middle and not backing up and even the OSU wrestler got to his foot/leg. It happened a second time, he was in the middle not backing up and this time the ref warned him and called stalling all in the same motion and he even got taken down. That is idiotic reffing at its finest
if they are going to call stalling for being forced out or held out when trying to get back in, then it becomes a sumo match. they may as well just go to giving 1 point for push out or stop calling it stalling.

I haven't re-watched it (why torture myself), but I'm pretty sure the ref took the first one. It was obvious that it was Lockett that false-started, but the ref pointed to himself and didn't give the caution. The commentator even made a remark about it on Flo. Just one of the many obviously biased calls.

First let me say, Iowa has gotten their butt kicked. But this referee is determined to interject in every match. Worst over officiating on the young season. Maybe Paycom has a bonus for most calls?
I was down in Tulsa. In all matches he reffed he looked lost in scramble situations as it looked like the sport was too fast for him. I try to find a positive with everybody and he was good at making people get to line fast after clock stoppages and made sure their feet were on the line, etc.

And we've seen numerous times over the years, an Iowa wrestler called for stalling because they forced their opponent out or wouldn't let them circle back in.

I don’t understand the universal hate for Iowa still when the dominant Gable years are long gone. PSU took that over 15 years ago, but they get nothing but love and favoritism from wrestling fans and refs.

Chael said it best. People hate Iowa because someone from Iowa either kicked their *** or kicked their favorite wrestlers *** and they can’t forget it.

I don’t follow him and me. I started watching Chael about two years ago and love his commentary. Hopefully his boy commits to us soon. 😂
