This team is tired

RutgersAl is actually stating the obvious.

Look what was written about Paul in the past. He is a different player. Pop a tape in of the Maryland game and look at the intensity we played with defensively in the 1sr half. Other Teams don’t play like that.
Something seems to have happened to Paul more acutely & seemingly coincident with that whole TJD incident

That has 4 days off
I’m not buying it. They were fine for 39 minutes yesterday. I’m so tired of the same bs. They absolutely implode late in games

They’ve been playing since November. They’re imploding because they’re tired and our bench is too short.

Minny had three of their starters play most of the game including Battle who I believe made the last 3

Minnesota got big production from their bench and that is the difference. We missed free throws. Can’t afford to shoot 68% from the ft line and win games. That’s why it’s called the charity stripe.

I understand having off nights and having a mid season slump. It’s part of the season. Teams get tired. I agree with that. But being tired has nothing to do with imploding the last minute of last night’s game. They controlled the game for 39 minutes

It has everything to do with it because we couldn’t get a defensive stop within the last minute. Fatigue prevented us from playing good defense.

thank you for explaining fatigue to me and everyone in this thread. I can’t believe I didn’t consider mental and physical fatigue as one of the reasons why the team played the WORST basketball I’ve seen in ages.

All teams are equally tired this time of year. Good teams overcome it, particularly when games are on the line and especially when one team has something to play for. If anyone could have used the tired excuse it should have been Minny, not RU. Minny was tired for the prior 12 games and 38:45 of the game with us, but somehow got some energy in the last 1:15.

This loss was not on any individual person or exhaustion. It was a rarely seen epic meltdown and loss of focus, basketball IQ and fundamentals on behalf of the team - coaches and players. That last 1:15 will live in Rutgers athletics infamy and is a tutorial on how to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and how not to end a basketball game.

Missed free throws, poor passing, not blocking out allowing an easy offensive rebound and put back, failing to move up court when four defenders are trailing you by a good distance and you have a two on one in your favor but instead pass the ball back, not calling time out to set your defense with 5.8 seconds to go (especially if the team is "tired"), letting Minny roll the ball in to save time and not pressuring them, not having the proper players in there at the end, letting the opponent's hot shooter get open, leaving your feet without even a good pump fake, not having your best defender on the hot shooter. I may have missed something.

As you can see, I have gotten over the loss. Lol.

We have missed big FTs in almost every close game this year. They weren’t tired — we’re just not a great team. Frustrating because I think the talent is there to be great but the results prove otherwise.
The talent isn't there to be great.Rutgers has a 10-9 league record which isn't great. The team lacks players that can create and make shots off the dribble.Rutgers was picked for eighth place preseason based on the departure of Baker and Harper.Spencer is the only go to scorer and he doesn;t take enough shots.Hopefully, Rutgers will still get a NCAA bid which will be a great accomplishment for a over achieving team. The trend is still positive because higher level talent is being recruited.

Cam was hot as a firecracker in the first half and Minnesota was giving him whatever he wanted. When he is shooting like that we need to find him and he needs to shoot, shoot and shoot some more. Second half cooled a bit. Go with the hot hand when it is hot. Other teams do that. Think Pickett PSU and Tyson Walker at Michigan State.

Teams are not equally tired this time of year because our starters have played a disproportionate amount of minutes, so they have shouldered a disproportionate amount of the burden. Paul’s play has clearly declined and I believe he is exhausted.

I would submit to you that the bad passing, lack of blocking out, boneheaded mistakes, loss of IQ and fundamentals in the last 1:15 are all symptoms of fatigue. Not dissimilar to football, where our defense can’t stop anyone in the 2nd half in November games. And just like football, you fix this problem by recruiting better players and building quality depth.

Basketball is the most physically taxing sport I’ve ever played. Running 26 miles is easier for me than it was to get through the first basketball practice of the year. The kids are doing their best, and that’s all I can ask of them. Disappointing losses are part of the bargain.

we ran out of gas. That’s why we controlled the game for 39 minutes and wilted in the last 1:15. We didn’t become bums in the span of one game.
