Put up 550-650 yards of offense on UofL and force at least two turnovers. I have not been on the UofL bandwagon all year. Yes they jumped all over FSU, who isn't very good this year. Since then what have they done? SOS sucks, Clemson was a fraud result with all the turnovers, almost lost to UVA and got saved by a bogus call against Duke. I'm not saying we win but I can see a shootout for sure. UofL is all Jackson, if we somehow find a way to slow him down and force field goals and 3 or 4 punts we have a chance.

I just don't see the disaster people think this will be. I've said for 5 weeks UK has a real shot here. The teams UofL struggled with this year have been teams that are poor versions of Kentucky. Also, don't underestimate the result last week against Houston could play. UofL is out of the playoffs, the ACC title game and just got embarrassed on national TV after their team went off on Twitter against the CFBPC. I think this will be a fun game!

.....surprisingly do a decent job containing Lamar Jackson and hold a 7 point lead heading into the half. L. Jackson leaves the game in the third quarter due to cramping only to be relieved by Kyle Bolin. Once again, Stoops is unprepared for the possibility of facing the backup and Bolin looks like Tom Brady a la 2014 all over again.

Cats lose 38-17

Sorry, UK football has just made me too damn pessimistic and whatever nightmare scenario you think can happen, often does happen.

Have we stopped a running quarterback all year? Even the worst team in FCS was running at will against us with a mobile QB. Good thing they didn't have any passing game at all or it would have been a game for much longer than it was.

I don't know if the players are not being taught properly how to defend a mobile QB or if the defense we run isn't the best to stop it. All I know is we haven't been able to stop a mobile QB since Stoops has been here. Especially not one on a good team. Petrino has owned Stoops and I will be surprised if that changes playing at their place.

I'd love to be wrong, but with the way the teams have played to finish the seasons under Stoops,I am expecting about a 21 point loss.

Just a thought....maybe some knowledgeable Football guys could shed light on this idea, but what if we chose to replace out big, down defensive linemen with more speedy players, i.e. d-backs, lbackers, d-ends and kept them in standing positions constantly shifting? Attempt to counter ul's offense, specifically Jackson, by using speed?

That's something of the template Marshall used, but Marshall just gave up too much over the top and it became easy pickings. Wake, UVA and Duke used derivetives of using nickels in personnel and crowding the running lanes with an extra defender than there were blockers and did very good jobs of confusing blocking schemes as a result.

Two teams went with the idea that their front four was good enough to contain Louisville's running game in a standard set, both went into the game in the Top 15 defensively and that was NC State and BC. The game's were over by the start of the second quarter.

With us, I don't know if it's so much the Who that is important to attacking our offense, I think it's the How. UVA and Wake both had very active linebackers and pretty good safeties (Quinn Blanding at UVA is an outstanding one who will be a first day guy when he leaves). But the defensive lines weren't of the same quality as BC and NC State.

This weekend.....Big Blue Nation has been chomping at the bit for this this one !!! It's going to be probably the most EPIC game of the 2016 season! UK will start off with an "assess the situation" damage control style of play, carefully reading and understanding LOSERVILLE's game plan. It will be close early on....10-7, 7-3 type of game.

Then, in the second half, the Wildcats will UNLEASH HELL on the Cards with laser-like focus, a genius Eddie Gran play calling scheme, and Stoops himself motivating our players to be their best...300+ yards of rushing, an UNBLEIVABLE AIR RAID passing attack and suffocating DEFENSE will result in a PROGRAM CHANGING W for UK....Cats win 37-30. Commonwealth Stadium will be ROCKING, like a full blown rock and roll concert mode. It's going to be an amazing experience.

The only scenario I can see where we come out on top is a tennis match type game, where UK puts together long 5, 6, 7 minute drives and puts up a TD, UofL responds with quick strike scores in the 2 minute area. Time of possession allows UK to keep a physical edge, and then we win the game on the final drive.

We don't have the defense to keep UofL under 40 IMO so this game is going to be on the offense. That won't be easy as UofL is pretty stout up front. Need to just keep banging away with the hope of wearing them down.

First only one team has even come close to putting up over 500 yards on Louisville and that was Clemson and sorry UK isn't as good as Clemson. Oh and the Clemson game was a fraud because of the turnovers ? Well last I looked turnovers are part of the game and yes Clemson had 5 but Louisville had 3.

Second FSU isn't any good ? Last I looked 8-3 is decent and they are in the Top 20 in all the polls so several people seem to disagree with you.

Third by no means is Louisville's SOS stellar but it is still better than UK's according to Sagarin. Sagarin has UofL SOS at 62 and UK's at 66.

Yes the lost to Houston killed any chance at the playoff and that is on the team for not taking care of business. However the chance at the ACC title game was pretty much out of play when we lost to Clemson. However what is still in play is. NYD 6 Bowl (Orange Bowl).

I question if Love has the speed and/or instincts to play this game. I'm remembering last year UL ran several plays with the RB up the middle that we didn't stop, when we reacted to that Jackson was running free around the edge. I think Elam will be useless in this game and Love too slow and poor at tackling. We haven't pressured the QB all season and that is something Houston did very well. They did it with a five star DT too quick for their OL and an otherwise fast defense, we have neither, so we will not be able to copy what Houston did. We need our DB's to play solid, Edwards needs to be aware of the entire field and not be sucked down leaving the middle of the field open. He has been guilty of that several times this year starting with the end of the 1st half vs SM. Our front seven needs to twist, stunt, and blitz in such a way their OL becomes confused and commit multiple infractions, even then as was the case with Houston stops on 3rd and long are not easy stops.

[QUOTE="ulismyman, post: 5361664, member: 12798"...basketball team in throws of worst and despicable basketball scandal ever...[/QUOTE]

Not even remotely in the same league as "the worst basketball scandal ever"....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baylor_University_basketball_scandal

"On August 16, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that [Baylor basketball coach Dave] Bliss told players to lie to investigators by indicating that [murdered player] Patrick Dennehy had paid for his tuition by dealing drugs.[Bliss himself had paid $7,000 of Dennehy's tuition] These conversations were taped on microsassette by assistant coach Abar Rouse from July 30 to August 1. On the tapes, Bliss was heard instructing players to fabricate the story of Dennehy being a drug dealer to the University's investigative committee and also said that talking to the McLennan County, Texas Sheriff's Department would give him the opportunity to "practice" his story. The tapes also showed that Bliss and his staff knew that Dennehy had been threatened by two of their teammates when they publicly denied such knowledge."

The UL issue is bad, but IMHO not even close to obstructing justice in a murder case (ie, denying to investigators that the victim had been threatened), while trying to cover your butt by inducing others to to lie to law enforcement investigators (itself a crime) by fabricating a story that the victim was a drug dealer.

Major NCAA violation
Obstruction of justice in a murder case (Dotson didn't plead guilty until two years later)
Conspiracy to obstruct justice
Defamation of character (of a dead man who can't defend himself no less)

First of all in the 28 years I have lived in Lexington , Commonwealth Stadium has never hosted any concerts.

Second all of that could happen in Commonwealth this weekend. If that does happen then UK is playing in the wrong stadium since the game is in Louisville

You may be right, but I really don't think they're going to be angry and extra-motivated this weekend. They not only lost big last week, but any hope of making the play-offs was totally crushed. They have had people swelling their heads up all season long, and now I can't help but to be think they're starting to doubt themselves. I mean they're going to a nice Bowl game regardless of what happens in this game, and this week they're playing the team that they have just showed up and owned as of late. Meanwhile, Kentucky is hungry for pay back, and will be playing with absolutely nothing to lose. I think this game, is going to be closer than many think.

For UK to have much of a chance in this game they must do 3 things: On D they must pressure the QB and force turnovers and on O they must eliminate their many mistakes. They really haven't come close to doing that in any game this year, hard to imagine doing it at this late date. But even if they do those things it may not be enough, still at least give yourself a chance.

Two things necessary to stop/contain UofL's offense w/ Jackson:
1) stud DL who can hold ground then get off blocks when run comes by them
2) agile, fast LB's who can fly to ball -- basically need a whole corps of guys like Jordan Jones

Problems for us:
1) we have ZERO stud DL who can hold ground and shed blocks/tackle interior runners
2) we have exactly ONE Linebacker like J. Jones

Herbstreit made a point towards the end of the Florida State game about whether Louisville would be able to maintain that chip-on-their-shoulder sense after beating FSU. Charlie Strong might have called the faux twitter anger after the number five ranking last week "fake juice" and it's something that eventually catches up with you.

Given some of the exorbitant spreads we've seen for Louisville games--and the uneven performances that ensued--it's fair to ask if maybe our players will comeback with a strange sense of relief over not being scrutinized to the extent we had become accustomed in the last month. I don't think our kids knew how to handle it or at the least handled it well.

You're responding to a sarcastic post by a UL troll. Don't take him seriously. Surprised he showed back up over here after that beatdown by Houston.
