amazing how those other 3 five stars (haselwood, wease, rattler) never really worked out as we hoped.

Gotta give the kid a chance brother. We either roll with the punches or just forget about cfb altogether imo. Here's something else to digest as far as cfb goes. Remember, NIL was first approved by California gubner newsom.

College athletics have been turned upside down. The entity NCAA is thus irrelevant.

Oh I would rather have 5 stars than 3 stars, but just seems like we haven't had many 5 star kids live up to expectations. Venables is certainly a recruiting machine though.

There are people who equate not getting Payton Bowen as a disappointing recruiting year. He is that good.

Hazlewood and Wease both had knee injuries early in their careers. I agree that their careers did not go well, but the injuries didn't help. I cant recall many dropped balls by the duo, so when their number was called they did answer.

I am sure the Coaches are and were feverishly recruiting since that sad ending in Lubbock. I don’t really count the Geez-Its Bowl as redemption opportunity with a skeleton crew. And playing a much improved Florida State team. This team would have to dig deep and come out fired up...

Some high profile targets and portal guys to bring in for 2023.

I agree they were decent players, just not superstars by any stretch. As for Wease, what good does it do him to transfer to Missouri????? I don't get these guys sometimes. He is starting at OU, knows the system, and has a good returning QB coming back next year. And he wants to go to Missouri?

Bowen would be a Massive get, the kid is legit. Have seen him in person and he will make an immediate impact.

Wease's transfer was a head scratcher for me.
Rumor has it that Wease was told that he was being overtaken on the roster by underclassmen. Mims (obviously), Farooq, Gibson and Hester would likely see more playing time. OU has some traget WRs from the portal also.

The head scratcher is why OU did not offer 4 star Safety Javien Toviano? He committed to LSU recently. I believe Javien is Braden Willis half brother.

This isn't going to be a popular opinion here, but I think Bowman is going to stick with ND. He still has ND commit on all his social media. If he was going to flip I think he would have done that already so that ND would have a chance to fill his spot. I hope I am wrong and he signs first thing in the morning.

I keep reading about Tuasili Akana being crystal balled to OU. His sister just won a Natty at Texas in volleyball and his high school buddy signed with Texas. That would seem to be strong undercurrent that's not being talked about.
If it comes to a bidding war we lose. At this point, I expect the number 1 priority for all potential recruits and transfers to be money.

It's not a big chance. Maybe less than 5%, butt there a chance that OU will sign Akana and Bowen AND Hicks.

247 has said that if that happens, OU's class will be top three, maybe top two.

Bowens isnt flipping, he's staying true to his commitment. All of his social media still has ND on them. Ou will not land any of these guys. Akana will end up at Colorado, Hick at either texas or a@m.

Back to the original post, I think Steve Wiltfong might want to take his crystal ball and throw it in the dumpster.

There was a tweet somewhere that mentioned it, also said that OU would match the offer, but guess that was false.

I think NIL money will render the entirety of the college football recruiting analyst space obsolete.

They won't be obsolete. There are a ton of people who want to hear who their school is interested in and who's visiting. And after signing where their school ranks. And on the premium parts of the site, they want to hear the interviews and all that. And there have been guys like Wiltfong making and selling their opinions for 20 years or more, and a lot of it is an optimistic guess, based on pretty shaky speculation.

Some people will still buy snake oil.

A lot of us just like hanging out online with other guys who share our sports passions. Having somebody who organizes a place for that to occur is something we can be thankful for. And when OUr team has a season like OUr team did this season, a lot of us want a place where we can express a litany of negative thoughts about what happened. That kind of American attitude extends far beyond sports teams.

I learn stuff here. I even get news about all kinds things here, often before I get it anywhere else. Wiltfong is a small cog in that process, and I'm a little thankful for it. He's just going to be wrong a lot more than in the past, and I have to understand that. He was wrong a lot, well before NIL meant anything besides a bid in a Spades card game.

But sites like this and elsewhere have sold info from never cited sources for a quarter century, when the reliability of that source might be very shaky. When a FIVE STAR recruit is involved, a lot of us have paid a hundred bucks a year to hear it two days before it makes it to the free side of the board. After all, a fan is just a shortened version of fanatic.

And when the important decision of a 17- or 18-year-old kid is involved, especially one with Bowen's history, we have to expect at least a bit of unreliability.

We shall see. The prognosticator portion of the industry is more suspect that at any time than I can remember. Sure, comradery abounds and sites will continue traffic on that front. I'm of the opinion you can get that on free boards without the "insider" info but your mileage may vary.

So Brandon Harper had 100 catches for 1700 yrds and 19 touchdowns, 3rd in the nation for receiving yards. Runs a 4.4 forty and he is a PWO at OU. This could be a steal for the good guys. He's out of Nobles OK.

The nil has forced the experts to brush up on their financial knowledge. A dynamic we'd better get used to. 👍

BV needs Bob to make a call to brother Mark and put a word in the ear of Kiyaunta Goodwin. OT in the portal 6'8 340 lbs. all you need to do is watch the first play of his film. Big boy can move.

With Bowen's signature, OU is now ranked 7th in RIvals' recruit rankings for high school class and 5th of 247. Not bad for a 6-6 team. Too bad Akana flipped at the last moment. We'd have been top five both places.

Yes, that's very high, all things considered. Right up there with Riley's 2018 and 2019 classes.
