Wonder how much the hype around Washington played a part
Honestly I don’t think it did at all. Even though Coach Frost said we weren’t going to recruit over kids, we definitely did in this case. We have quite a few guys much better on our board, noteably Wandale Robinson who is visiting for the first game I believe.

Still early. Hope the kid makes out ok. Good luck to him.

I’m so disappointed that this staff allowed the class ranking to drop to #26. Then again, I’m super excited that the average stars have increased.

I hope not.

I don’t know that we pulled is offer for bigger fish, but wouldn’t mind if we did when there is still 5+ months until signing day and his entire senior season to showcase and find a new landing spot. And if so, he was allowed to make it his decision in the public sphere.

But I say this with the understanding that Frost is in his first year and still transitioning. When he is 5 years in with an established track pattern at his lifetime gig, then I would expect him to have a better feel for where his standard for offer acceptance lies.

The wording of the tweet says it for me. It wasn't a proactive message, It didn't say after some soul searching I let Coach Held and Coach Walters know that I will be decommitting from UNL and opening up my recruitment. His message appears reactionary to me, like he didn't have a real choice. After talking with Coach Held and Coach Walters I will be decommitting from Nebraska and opening up my recruitment. To me, it just didn't appear he was the one calling the shots.

It just reads like the conversation with the coaches led to the decommitment, it doesn't read like the choice to decommit led to the conversation with the coaches

This isn't really a loss. The kid may end up being a solid running back, but he doesn't have a very high ceiling and is certainly no Maurice Washington. I'd rather we make some room and go after an electric player like Wandale Robinson.

Don't know and may never. He could have gotten interest from the oklahoma schools and decided to listen to others, also. Until later, may not know, or never know the entire story. Again, good luck to him

May have told him they were still recruiting running backs and he may have seen Robinson was coming to town and discussed it with the coaches and was uncomfortable with the conversation. Only the parties involved, obviously, know.

Pretty sure this is one of those instances where the school pulled the offer and the kid sends out a tweet about him opening up his recruitment.
You think this will happen more in the future? By the end of this recruiting cycle as things start to tighten up and there's still good players out there, I could see a couple more of our current recruits getting the same treatment. Maybe it will even be an in-state commit.

Looks like we are getting on-board the improved recruiting bandwagon. Bigger better deals await.

I do. That is why I questioned why Nebraska was taking commitments from guys that they didn’t need to be in a rush to take.

That seems like the more likely scenario. The offer was still good, but with so many commits in the class and possibly another coming, too much competition and the likelihood of riding the bench will get most kids questioning things. Add to that an honest conversation where your position coach tells you that you would be 3rd or 4th at your spot in the next class, and that was enough to get him to decommit. I doubt that an offer was pulled, but I think the player realized that he wasn't a high priority recruit. It's better to go to a school where the staff is very high on you. I wish him luck. He has his senior year. He could still attract some good offers.

To me it’s the same thing as pulling an offer.

It’s the same as telling a kid he will be 9th string in a group of 5 and he won’t see the field. You hope he leaves on his own and frees up the scholarship. You didn’t technically cut him but everyone on these boards will give the coach credit for getting rid of him. See Will Jackson and all the other guys that were “cut” since January.

The coaches made the decision that they didn’t want Grayson in the class, he took the hint.

That's another way to look at it. And I do believe that the recent players leaving were not run off or cut. Bottom line is this staff is asking way more from these kids than Riley ever did. The early morning practices alone could be enough to make a kid decide that they don't want to ride the bench anymore.

The practices usually begin at 8:30 or 8:45. Not really what I would consider early enough to deter someone. Most players would have class around this time.

Wandale Robinson just got a CB pick for NU as well. Im thinking that it was a mutual decision BETWIXT the staff and Grayson to move on.

Not sure about the level of competition, but last year Wandale Robinson had 563 yards and 7 TD's in one game and has had 2,000+ yards rushing, along with ~3,000 all purpose yards each of the previous two seasons. It's no wonder Ohio State, Michigan, and Bama want him. So I'm hoping the CB picks for Nebraska are correct.

The CB is from Sam McKewon, so it doesn't really hold much weight.

Now that we know Urban is keeping his job, I think it will be tough to beat out Ohio State for him.

It will be interesting to see how recruiting plays out for Ohio State… I’m sure they will still be one of the top recruiting teams in the nation, but how many recruits will not consider Ohio State now because they kept Urban Meyer? It’s probably a small number I guess, but one can hope…

One hopes that is true, that some of the shine has worn off. I think that has less to do with the recruits and maybe more to do with the parents of recruits, however.

Bottom line is, we'll take any weakening of Ohio State we can get, but they sit on statistically the most fertile 500 mile radius of any team in the country, they have a proven coach (proven to both win and be a sleazebag), and a long tradition of kicking ***. It's very hard to compete with that.

I think it will help them. Come to tOSU, where football is more important to the university than education, morals, and the law.

And now, if you do something wrong, all you need to say is that you have a medical condition where you have trouble remembering bad things you have done.
