Based off what I've read and what they return should be a top 15 small ball team ( bottom half ). They may be the exception, privates are usually really good or really bad. After watching them play a few times they are really well coached. My opinion.

Since Coach Jerry Cash arrived (314 career wins in NC and SC), the program has been very competitive at the 1A level. They went 6-6 in his 1st season (after winning one game over the prior three seasons) but they were playing in the 1A/2A Western Highlands conference and struggled against the 2A programs (not much depth and injuries took their toll). This year could be his best team at Thomas Jefferson, given the number of seniors, returning starters and their willingness to put in the hard work and play together as a team. Expecting them to be one of the top 10 teams in small 1A and a tough, physical matchup in the playoffs. Would be a great story to have two 300 win coaches (Gentry and Cash) face off in the playoffs!

Their top WR is now at Shelby but they have a lot coming back and should be very good this year.

They got a WR that came from Shelby but had to sit out last year who is stronger/faster than the WR they lost. They also have a 6'6' 300lb lineman back from a season ending injury

Of course they have to perform but as of right now, they have a starting O line with four players between 250-300 lbs (all Seniors)! Their starting RB, also a Senior, just won a competition at a recent USC football camp. Just hoping they can avoid key injuries this season.

Those Gryphons are a classy bunch, and agree that Coach Cash obviously knows what he;s doing, and gets the very best out of his team every season.....With the experience returning, it wouldn't surprise me to see TJ challenge for the conference crown this year, and make some noise in the 1A playoffs as mentioned above!

Who is the WR Crestuff is referring to? C and JT haven't said anything about a WR transfer from Shelby

Transferred to TJ before last season but had to sit out all season. (Josh Hopper) I think

TJ adds nothing new, an average RB who runs hard. But no speed, a QB who plays both sides of the ball. Come 2nd half he's winded. You said you added a WR, but the WR you lost to Shelby. Was also the back up QB . Looks like TJ took a step back.

Can we all just make a pledge to stop replying to any of RichBlackman's posts for the rest of this season? His banter is tiresome, always negative towards other teams and is not worthy of response. I'm sure the most players, coaches and families at Mountain Island charter would be embarrassed by his comments. JUST IGNORE HIM!

In all seriousness rb, if murphy and mic were to meet in the playoffs, do you think that mic's defense will be able to contain murphys offense better?

Of course, we have LB's now who play great gap control. To stop Murphy you have to fill gaps. Last year LB play for MICS was terrible. MICS is a better all around team.

Even thou MICS has T.J's number. I do believe they'll be a problem for mountain teams. There running QB is a problem, if TJ could find away to keep him fresh. Instead of playing him at OLB and safety. Depending on the bracket seeding TJ could knock off a few SMC teams.

Mhs-88 if you go back to the MICS/Murphy game. All your big runs was in the gaps MICS LB's didnt fill. Our d-line actually got a decent push. LB's was a big weakness last year. But it want be a problem this year.

Murphy should actually be more balanced this season, with the receiving cor being better than last year. The backfield is loaded with talent also. As you said rb "pick your poison"
