Well the economics tied to football alone are pretty compelling, there is little doubt PSU, tOSU and Mich are disproportionally funding the rest of the conference.

Money talks and 9 figures is going to be pretty hard to ignore for Kraft and others.

If PSU, tOSU, Mich pulled in a Notre Dame or Oregon with them, it just may happen.

I guess for wrestling it's a definite net loss, granted we could still schedule Iowa, Minn, Illinois and others in non-conference meets. Even OSU and VT could come into that conversation. The biggest loss is Big10s conference championships, the best conf. Wrestling event anywhere, allocations for Nationals and other factors.

On balance it's not the end of the world, but I think a negative overall for wrestling.

Thoughts?

A) I don’t think in a million years it would happen B) Despite all of wrestling’s success,it doesn’t generate revenue, therefore, it could be subject to being cut. C) I could see teams like Iowa, Minny, etc not scheduling PSU for many reasons, mostly spite. D) Leaving the B1G could start the downfall of the PSU dynasty.

Wetzel is an idiot, though this is just further proof. It's not happening, and especially not without the Los Angeles TV market.

Also, those 3+ schools would lose all leverage for the football playoffs. Nobody would schedule them, as we're already seeing almost no Power 4 non-conference games. (And before anyone says Texas-Ohio State, Sark has said that game cost them a playoff berth and was a mistake.)

Wrestling would need to add a 4th team in order to receive any AQs from its postseason tourney. And who's gonna join them for wrestling only, with a strong chance of most/all of their wrestlers finishing 4th and therefore not qualifying for nationals?

Whoever first assigned the terms ’revenue sports’ and ‘non-revenue sports’ to delineate college sports should be pummeled with a dictionary.

Subtle FIFY just to be correct. It does generate revenue.

This actually says they lost nearly $2.5 million?

Revenue ≠ profit. Revenue is the top line, profit is the bottom line. If a sport sells tickets or sells merchandise, it generates revenue.

You are correct. I misused words. They are not producing profit. Therefore, a bit of a liability in the athletic department despite mountains of success

Venture Capital is already here… Utah has it and more is on the way including at PSU. Wall Street will be running things within five years.

Sometimes one organization’s profit is that organization’s output, which is another organization’s input. From the second organization’s point of view, the profit can rightfully be called revenue. 🧐

I believe that is called taxes.
