Thoughts on the Tennessee game??

This will be a lot like our game at Alabama, little to no offense or change for us as coaches stubbornly play conservatively even as the game gets out of hand. UT will throw more though and run it up.

Our D is getting better but we still have to control the clock to win this or any other game. I love Smith but it's not like we can just drive 80 yards with quick hitters or intermediate routes when we need to.

Just a little more Tennessee info... It has been an unusual year for Tennessee's defense. Statistically, they are very efficient. Meaning about 90% of the time they play really good football, even with all the injury issues. But big plays have been a major issue. The other 10% of the time big plays have absolutely killed us.

I expect this trend to continue to some degree Saturday. Do not be surprised if we defend the wildcat really well, and all of a sudden yall break a big one or hit a long ball.

Badet is basically a deep threat exclusively and is turbo fast, he gets open deep seemingly wherever he wants has been catching them this year sans last week. Conrad is a big play TE, but our QB has missed him over the middle wide open several times. He has a 70yd TD catch this year as well. Boom is one of your better big play backs in the country so that gives me hope.

Juice is a better big play threat than Badet (who is a weapon) if someone can deliver him the ball in stride on the post, cross, or slant. I say better because these routes are not "all or nothing" and can yield significant yardage even when they aren't broken for the house.

He shares Conrad's problem... getting the ball delivered in stride over the middle.

I see no reason UK should win this game, but I see no reason not to play competitively.
All things being as they are, I expect Tennessee to win by ten. Any less and the Jones regime will feel water getting warmer.

I don't understand where the hot seat talk comes from for Butch Jones... I understand that this season has been disappointing, but if we finish 9-3, it's not a raging dumpster fire that deserves hot seat talk. It's a situation that Jones deserves the opportunity to improve.

When is the last time Tennessee could be upset about a 9 win season?... it's been a long time.

I have my concerns about the direction of the program and wonder if Jones can be our Dabo Swinney type coach, but to put him on the hot seat after 9-3 (and an insane number of injuries en-route to that record) is silly, IMO

Now, lose one of the last three, and I agree, the water will be getting much warmer.

I think it's a case of fan expectation.the realistic fans that Tennessee has would point to injuries and defections.

Not many realistic sports fans anywhere.

This was supposed to be tennessees year

And at a minimum, without a few very very lucky plays would have 2 more losses

Not to disagree with you again, but you can pick certain plays from any close game and say if the outcome were different, the outcome of the game would be different.

Just one of many many plays throughout the game...

You are what your record says you are

Well duh.

But, very few teams have had those plays happen at the very end so often. Tennessee is very very fortunate to have the record they do and it doesn't quite tell the whole story of their year.

Notice I didn't add Florida to the list? That's because, even though it was close .. Tennessee won that game by being better in the 2nd half. Not by a lucky bounce

So does Clemson get your disclaimer on their season because NC State missed a field goal?

Were you proclaiming Tennessee to be better than 8-4 last season when they lost 4 games by 17 total points.

Silly thought process you have here, IMO.

UT has been sort of a Jeckel and Hyde team this year from what I can see - played really well against VaTech, Florida, Georgia and A&M, but poorly against Appy State, Ohio, Bama and USC. If there is a trend of note here, with the exception of Bama, it seems that they get up really well for the big games, but deflate against easier opponents.
