No. I'm saying that a student at a public school just has to say "I'm Catholic" and they are permitted to transfer out of district (and not move) to the Catholic school.

All a kid has to do is go to a school that doesn't have the sport, and they can go anywhere in NC, essentially.

Ok, part of being a "team" is the PRIDE part of the school. The name on the uniform. So, the school isn't "good enough" to attend, yet they want to play on the team? Sorry......

It's not athlete-first that usually take this route. Homeschooling has standards just as difficult as public. An athlete first will never keep up on their work via homeschooling.

You will be punishing the academic-first, if you go that route.

This was supposed to be about home schooled being allowed to play sports at a public school. BTW...the WV home school Tebow issue had support from both political parties. Also I am PRO public schools. Both my daughter and sons children are being home schooled......But I am constantly on them about sending them to schools because I believe its good for the kids.

My children will NEVER be home-schooled. Even though I feel I could educate them better. I think it's important for them to experience every aspect of society and public education is perfect for that. And my personal feelings are that you should offer your extra-curricular activities to those that are willing to show up in the school and be part of the day to day aspect of it.

Thats exactly why I continue to encourage my son and daughter to SEND their kids to public schools. Both my son and daughter attended PUBLIC schools. You tried to turn this into a political deal.

Why? Cause I used the example of allowing our elected officials to live elsewhere? Simply showing how stupid it is to allow someone being home-schooled to play public school sports. Was not attempt to politicize this.

These were your words in your 5:59 pm post:
"This isn't about "competition" like you fair-weather Republicans want to make it out to be."

Oh come on Nancy.......a little dig on you all? That's not making it about politics. That's about having some fun. How many times you all throw out "libtards" or worse?

I do it all the time...but this was hopefully a respite from politics. Anyway..... you have a good evening.....I sadly am going to watch the Caps get obliterated by the Pens.

Veto. It only punishes the kid.
I don't know where I fall on this - I can see both sides. Even though the kid is home-schooled the parent is still paying school tax and should be able to participate in those school activities...on the other hand I can see where abuse of this might come into play.

We are talking about middle school and high school sports. Let them play.

Maybe I'm jaded because I hear a friend of mine whine all the time and I'm so sick of the whining. If it means that much to you (her) that her son plays high school baseball, put him in public school. Otherwise, STFU.

I think it's all about controlling the student athlete, meaning, player "x" attends Riverside High School, and to maintain his eligibility to play, he must attend school, he must pass classes, etc. How would you control these rules with kids who are home schooled?

Same way they do now.

I can't speak on that, however I know we do have home schooled kids competing here in Georgia. It only gets to be a problem if you have some schools going out and recruiting for kids like Colleges do.

If the kids are simply picking those schools of athletic programs they wish to compete in, it's usually not a problem.

Homeschoolers cannot participate on public school teams in Georgia.

As I've said earlier in the thread, don't punish the kids for their parents sins.

I agree, you either go to public school and all it entails or you don't. There isn't an ala cart menu.

10 states it is ala cart, kids can participate in public school activities without any special consideration. The other 40 are a mix.

I don't buy the tax angle of this argument. We all pay taxes for services and benefits we never use.
