and I’m upset about it... Deonte Brown is the biggest name. I want a full strength Bama but it is what it is.

Three Alabama players, including starting offensive lineman Deonte Brown, did not travel with the team to Miami and will not compete against Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff semifinal game at the Capital One Orange Bowl on Saturday.

Reserve Elliot Baker, an offensive lineman and Kedrick James, a tight end, were the other two suspended players.

The three players were suspended "due to a violation of team rules and policies," coach Nick Saban said in a statement released to the media on Monday night.

Brown, a sophomore, has started five of Alabama's past six games, including the SEC championship game against Georgia. He had been dealing with a turf toe injury, but was making progress, Saban told reporters last week.

Baker has not appeared in a game this season. James has appeared in five games but has not made a reception.

Probably loaded at each position with 5 star recruits, plug and play. Who had heard of Tua before last years National Title Game? I had not.
I doubt it affects them much at all.

You haven’t heard of Tua?! I heard ppl ranting and raving about him for a year before he went to Bama ... watch this kid and Bama got him

But Brown is their best run blocker according to Bama fans it’s a huge loss

Started 5 of last 6 games...If he is the best run blocker, Alabama has more issues up front then anybody believes.

Apparently they do.

Alabama’s official participation chart. But Brown is an important loss.
Brown has appeared in every game except the one against the Citadel and started in five of the last six. He became the starting left guard for Bama’s game against Tennessee on the third Saturday in October and has held down that spot ever since.

When Brown, a redshirt sophomore, took the starting job, he replaced senior Lester Cotton. The simplest thing to do would be to reinsert Cotton, but maybe it’ll be something else.”

He’s appeared in every game cept Citadel the one they were tied 10-10 at half

True we weren't dogs then but the similarity is the 3 players suspended. They set us up with the 'loss of 3 of their best players' and Lou Holtz called the game of his life that night.

We weren’t a 14 point ‘dog in ‘78. Different circumstances.

Yep, OU was heavily favored in that one while the piggies were 10-1 but had 2 players suspended that had accounted for 78% of the piggies points that season (had to look that up). The piggies were 18 point dogs prior to the suspensions and 24 point dogs after the suspensions. Piggies won 31-6.

Looks like Bama's suspensions "for violations of team rules" is really for NCAA violations. By inference it appears to be for drug positives. Most likely.

Usually Bama suspends players for rules violations before bowl games, probably for motivional purposes, so that's old hat. But it does impact them to lose their starting left guard, mainly from the loss of teamwork. I wonder if the Sooners might test that position with wildcat blitzes?

Fun game! I love OUr chances a lot.

Alabama's suspension of three players is akin to tossing a wine glass off an ocean liner to lighten the load.
