First, Chase Audige and Gophers starting guard Luke Loewe were backcourt teammates at William & Mary for one year.

Second, the Gophers starting lineup consists of two 6th-year players, Eric Curry and Payton Willis, along with two 5th-year players, the aforementioned Loewe and Eylijah Stephens.

Third, and the most fun fact of the three, Payton Willis played against us in the NCAA Tourney for Vandy as a freshman, before transferring to Minnesota, then transferring to Charleston, then transferring back to Minnesota. Quite a journey. He's the best player on the team.

I was told Johnson targeted, in the portal, kids who were somewhat local and could be interested in coming back "home". While Willis is not local, Battle and Sutherlin are from MN.

I don't know if Willis is their best as Battle is a fine player. But he's definitely having a good season for them.
