We're off to a good start....Ilinois is the worst team in the league though. We should beat them handily at home. There are 7 ranked Big Ten teams and several other good teams just outside of the Top 25. It's going to be a grind.

I’ve told my friends who follow basketball, that game is win or just go resign. If he can’t beat McDermott this year, he never will.

In fairness there will be more conference games more important in the scheme of things down the road then Saturday..It only matters in the State...

For all the hate he has gotten, the team is 7-1, and we are now blowing out conference opponents... And we expect it at this point... How the vocal minority cannot get behind this season and team Miles built blows my mind.

Go Tim and GBR.
Sorry I just can't get too excited, we have seen this song and dance before.
2013 6-1, finished 14-17
2014 6-2 finished 19-12
2015 5-1 finished 13-18
2016 5-2 finished 16-18
Tim has a history of being very inconsistent. "Fool me once shame on you, fool my twice shame on you" You aren't getting me again Timmy.
I am not denying this team has a chance to do something great this year. Im just not going to get too excited until about half way through the year.

Nice to see the solid start, but still wait and see for me. As noted above, high win % at this point in a season isn't a reliable indicator of the season as a whole, at least not so far with Miles.

Unless Tim Miles takes us to the round of 32 this season I will consider it a failure and would like to move on from him. I'm no expert on basketball offensive sets but I know a couple guys who are and they agree with what others here have said, that it's a middle school offense. In 7 years Tim has not been able to recruit or develop a big and has survived on the backs of two gamers in Terran and JPJ getting hot. Thats not a sustainable strategy. I hope I'm wrong but I've been hurt by this program too many times to not be cautious.

Apparently, a 47-62 conference record is good enough to fool a few people around here.

I don't love Tim miles as a coach. He has a great starting 5 this year and that's what will (hopefully) get us a tourney win or 2 this year.
Unfortunately, I think we lose most of our talent after this year and return to a below average team.
I hope I'm wrong.

His teams are not disciplined and their execution offensively is poor. That said, Miles keeps the offense very simple so if he finds the right pieces to the offense and just rolls the ball out and lets them play, NU does OK.

Miles really doesn't have a clue about recruiting or developing a post player and seems to have a sense of disdain for big men. So he's better off recruiting perimeter bigs and forcing them to fend for themselves (minus decent technique) on the inside. It seems to be working OK. As long as Tim Miles' team has better talent than the opponent they are facing, they usually have a chance.

Semantics really... they're not good, but Rutgers and Minnesota are worse. Illinois has played an insane schedule so far this season and should probably fire whoever made their schedule.

Lol... this team isn't going to lose to the likes of a Samford or Gardner-Webb.

Yet best ever Nee’s 43% conference winning percentage was fine?
No. Hence, why he has been gone for years.

However, he had 10 post season appearances in 14 seasons. Miles, 2 in his first 6. Probably on track for his 3rd in year 7. That probably buys him at least one more year.

To counterbalance the negativism on what is supposed to be a fan site on a night where we won convincingly... GO BIG RED! Congrats on your victory! Ignore the wet blankets and armchair pundits.

The OP was asking for it. People, to whom the OP directed his post, respond with rational counterpoints, and they are “wet blankets?” Maybe the problem is with the OP.

We still have huge scoring droughts where our offense looks like a 5th grader designed it
So does every team in college basketball not named Duke or Gonzaga. This narrative that Nebraska is bad because of droughts is tiring. This is something EVERY COLLEGE TEAM deals with. Yet I swear we would think this is a flaw of Nebraska's only.

Based on this assessment, one would wonder how this team has won one game, let alone seven. He can't recruit (yet he has better talent), their offensive execution is poor (yet they are averaging 78 points per game and beat an Illinois team by 15 that played within 6 to Gonzaga and 2 to ND)

Thing is - many on this board blame me for being "johnny super fan" or whatever stupid moniker they choose, but if they are really objective, they should be happy with 7-1 and the numbers this team is putting up, but they continue to find things to cry about. I don't mind calling out issues that need to be improved, but that should also be accompanied by some credit when it's due.

In the context of Nebraska's history as a basketball program, Miles is pretty good. However they have not built what they wanted to build when he was hired. They're in the middle of the conference (in fairness an excellent Bball conference) and have not been able to get over the top with their recruiting.

They've sort of been stuck in feeling like it's year two for a lot of years now.

And with the nearly 7 minute scoring drought we still managed to put up 75 points. That means the team had multiple significant scoring bursts to overcome the lull. Prior years, and prior coaches, had this happened we would have never even sniffed 50 points.

We may get our hearts broken again this year, but it has been fun to watch so far.

I agree that all other teams have droughts, but our team is good for them multiple times a game, and usually during a time that the other team catches fire. Duke and Gonzaga can have droughts as well. The bigger point is Tim has a bad offensive scheme and when Palmer is off or in foul trouble we are basically done against a decent team because Tim doesn't have the ability to put forth an offense that can get anyone else involved except maybe Copeland. Also, there is plenty of talent out there that seems to not really get any better. This was supposed to be a huge year for Roby and he looks bad.

Look, I'm a fan of Nebraska basketball and I hope we do big things, but calling Miles impressive is funny to me. We are going to start getting into the point of the season where we see where we are at. I'd be happy to be wrong and come back and eat crow. You can count me as a fan who probably expects too much since we have had a little bit of success, but I also think we have spent a ton of money to make this place attractive and be able to at least field a team to make the tourney. Last year was good, but the Big 10 looks leaps and bounds better this year and we need to prove it. Probably why Moos gave the ultimatum.

I am happy with our success, but the first big "prove it" moment against Texas Tech we crapped the bed. I hope we dominate and kick ***, but this is a message board and its a place to talk about sports and a lot of time that involves criticism.

Just recognize that the majority of people (not just Nebraska fans) can't enjoy anything. It's the curse of modern life to basically be miserable all the time. And don't get me wrong, I'm as guilty as anyone. But it's sad that fans of one of the worst college basketball programs in the history of college basketball programs can't enjoy this team at all. I'm going to enjoy the hell out of it as long as it lasts. There's no "But the offense!", "But the facilities!", "But wait until we prove it!", "But the conference is better!".... to hell with it.

Personally I think the team has looked better almost every game, Palmer looks like he's on the verge of going back into killer mode, Copeland looks like an NBA player, Watson has a jumper this year, and Roby is starting to figure out how he fits in the offense. And don't get me started on Tanner Borchardt....

FWIW, I would not label Miles as "impressive" either at this point. Solid, and getting the job done. Enough good things so far to be optimistic.

The win at Clemson was a big one, because it puts Nebraska at 1-1 in high-leverage games, plus they have two other wins against teams with a pulse (Seton Hall and Illinois). I'm not ranting about the other wins because pretty much everybody racks up Ws against dog$#*! teams in order to pay the bills, but those games won't determine Nebraska's postseason fate.

If we can win the rest of our non-conference games and go at least .500 in conference play, I think we'll get in the tournament this year. The Big Ten could get 8-9 teams in this year. The SEC got 8 in last year and the ACC got 9. Both of these conferences are down from last year, while Big Ten is #1 in SOS.

Never said Miles couldn't recruit. But now that you bring that up, he has had a couple assistants who definitely are good recruiters with good connections while Miles is, I suppose, an OK recruiter (at best). Miles did bring in Thorboyornson or whatever his name is on his own.

I'm happy for the team's success, but it's not like Miles was a bad coach when we were losing and now he's suddenly a whole lot better coach somehow. Miles is who he is. He wouldn't be the first below average coach to bring his team to the Big Dance and maybe even win a game. It can be done as long as everything goes smoothly and he's not asked to do too much.
