Time for lineup changes

The time is NOW for the young guys to get more minutes. The future is not Nance and Audige, and they should be used off the bench to rest the young players who play the majority of minutes. Not only is this necessary for the development of the young players, the cats will be a better team! It’s critical that the young guys get as much playing as possible from here on in.

CC is slowly starting to realize this. He correctly sat Nance for the majority of the final 10 minutes in the Illinois game. Without Nance and Audige the Cats might have won that game. The team played much better with them on the bench. It’s becoming clear that Audige is just out for himself, like he’s trying to prove he’s the “go to” guy or auditioning for the next level. He’s going nowhere after NU and he’s hurting the team with the poor shots, turnovers, fouls and selfish play. He should be used off the bench, if at all, the remainder of the season.

Lineup: Roper, Simons, Young, Berry and Buie. Greer and Nicholson first off the bench. Barnhizer also needs minutes unless he’s eligible for a red shirt (not sure if he’s played in 4 games).

Huh? Nance is the only guy on the roster who could be a big ten starter on any other team in the conference. Why would you sit him?

For whom would Nance start in the B1G? That statement is very untrue, who would want him? Nebraska maybe?

CC might be fighting for his job. He’s not going full youth movement

One part of the original post is correct: Simmons should be starting with Roper.
This is an interesting thread because the original opinion was so off the wall.
After looking like he was way over his head in the early Big Ten games, Simmons was basically benched for about 5 games until yesterday. I think he scored all of his points in transition (layups) and he helped create several turnovers.

He's probably right back in Collins' good graces because he came in as a Top 100 recruit.

But something about this team is schizophrenic.

Slow down. Simmons scored all his points in transition. He’s harmless in half court ball. Roper is, understandably, still tentative on offense. We have enough problems on offense as it is.

That's my guess for why Simmons doesn't start -- they feel like Roper can't do enough on offense for Simmons to only provide defense and energy. But Roper may very well benefit from the pressure to create more shots for himself and others. And it's not like the other options are world-beaters. I really think Beran needs to hit the bench.

Simmons was great yesterday and he and Berry were the catalysts for our comeback, but he's still very raw and still is growing into his body. He has a ton of potential and athletic ability, but still has a good amount of development in front of him. Right now he's having success mostly on raw ability and effort. This isn't a bad thing, just the reality.

He has to fill out more and become a lot more polished on the offensive end. I think if he started you would see him have foul trouble pretty quickly. Excited to see what he'll be next year, and especially the year after that. Has star potential if he can refine himself on the offensive end.

Beran sitting down is the most important part of this post.

Simmons did start several games and did okay. Then he hit a slump but don't know why Collins sat him so much, nearly 0 minutes for several games. Luckily he seemingly kept a good attitude and is able to bounce back.

Agreed. It baffles me that Simmons has rode the bench for 5-6 games not even sniffing the court. It really shows you how bad Collins is with his in game management.

Roper hit a couple of big 3s in the first half vs. Rutgers. Simmons just hasn't shown that ability yet. That's why Roper is starting. Berry might be back in there tomorrow night after his showing at Illinois but he has been maddeningly inconsistent (see his Indiana stats). Lack of consistent threats from 3 has been the achilles heel for this team that has a lot of nice pieces.
