For those not noticing...NIL and transfer portal are the reality. The SEC alone is losing a ton of fifth year and more players.
I ts gonna be success while rebuilding...every year. The days of a core of third and fourth year guys sticking together is going to be ancient history.

This idea of 'we are Kentucky' carrying some type of entitlement to excellence and final fours is gone. The fact that Pope is able to instill an 'it's about this uniform' is amazing.

Next year Pope has to replace 4 starters.. that is IF Oweh returns. It's gonna be retool, rebuild and a war every year folks.

Put on your big boy pants and put the finger pointing and whining away. It's gonna be the wild west every year.

Get ready for it.

There should be absolutely no excuse to be great when all of the other "usual" teams are. Yes, teams will lose players fluidly, but great coaches and teams will have no problem reloading. This argument holds zero weight.

So long as players are happy and earning good money, there is no reason for a mass exodus every year. We will be one of a limited number of schools that can really afford the max in revenue share money. NIL will almost certainly level out with the schools 20.5M worth of checks floating around.

Everyone is going to retool each season. If UK supposedly has the money for elite-level NIL, there is no excuse. We need to be somewhere close to great every season.

Huh? Did we not replace starters before? And I'm not just talking Cal and his early entrants. Pitino lost starters. Joe B Hall. Tubby. And even harder, they couldn't replace them with mid major all stars.

And yes, Kentucky does get entitlement You can get 500,000 and play in front of half empty arena of fans checking phones for spring football updates. Or you can get 450,000 and play for 23,000 rabid fans that adore you.

That is double edged sword. A lot of guys would rather not have the unneeded pressure and frankly sometimes unrealistic expectations of our fans. Just look at all the posts of some of our "fans" trashing/bashing players after every loss.
We got to stop doing that so much as fans.
I know it would turn me off if I was a player.

It truly is "time to grow up" indeed!

True but other teams like UT are going to lose a ton, hell Barnes has had some of those players for years, which is maybe why there are rumors of him retiring. Several SEC teams will lose players after the season. If Pope can keep his returning players, add those freshmen and pick up 4 or so that can fill the holes from the portal I am confident he can put competitive team on the floor next year.

I understand your points and the sentiment. We’ll have to see what happens in the next several years, not just for Kentucky, but for all of college basketball.
Will the “blue bloods” maintain status, or will the new landscape level the playing field so much that blue bloods fade out and blend into the field ?? For me, I do not know or can predict what will happen, but I can see how it very well might be the “wild wild west” every year for everybody. The blue bloods may still be good, but so will a whole lot of other teams … we’ll know over the next several years how it plays out …

I tend to just simply think..... We're gonna be alright.

I've had my man pants on since 1974 going into Bloomington since I was 5. Remaining quietly confident here.

That is true. In fact the traditionally great teams should get stronger in this era. I expect that will happen at UK under Pope.

This is really a nonsense take when you think about it though.

#1. Every fan base has extreme fans. Logically, the larger fans have more of them. Your post ignores that basic logic.
#2. Your point about "unneeded pressure" is nonsense as well. These are the same guys who want to play in high pressure NBA playoffs games in front of tens of thousands of maniacal fans, and you don't think they can handle some Twitter or message board chatter?

Maybe you're speaking as to what you would be thinking as a player, instead of what the players are actually saying.

Whether it's Lamont Butler or John Wall or Jamal Mashburn, none of them gave any indication to what you're saying as being anywhere close to the truth.

We rebuilt an entire roster (not one returning player) in two weeks time. We lost 2 guys for the season to injury. Made the Sweet 16.

Just like what we said when people, even some of our fans, said we couldn’t replace Cal. We were Kentucky before and we’ll be Kentucky after. This program is in good hands and we’ll get ours. I’m not worried
