Man, the writing is on the wall. 3 BJC matches - $57 (roughly) per ticket. 4 Rec Hall matches - $20 per ticket. It's been a great run, but the finish line is in sight. The only good thing is my BJC tix are prime.

Yep. And my invoice was $494. My Rec Hall seats are about 100 feet closer than my BJC seats. Upper deck in Rec Hall is much better than BJC. But almost triple the price. Big Tens in State College may have kept me for one more year.

For a frame of reference, a season ticket with padded seatback at Carver is $200. I have 8th row center season tix at Grace Hall for $137 per. I have great seats for Seton Hall women's bball for $100 (18 games). Of course, none of them is the greatest college wrestling program in history.

Speaking of the Big Tens, any idea how tickets are allocated??

Where is @mcpat when you need him?

Poll:
  1. “Wow, must be tough being burdened with front-row access to greatness. Thoughts and prayers.”
  2. “Yeah, I hate when I get exactly what millions of fans dream of. So inconvenient.”
  3. “Totally understand. Having seats that people would commit minor crimes for is such a drag.”
  4. “Hang in there. Maybe next year you’ll get worse seats so you can finally be happy.”
  5. “You’re right, those season tickets sound awful. I’ll help you out—just give them to me.”
  6. “I can’t imagine the pain of watching every game live. So brave of you to endure it.”
  7. “First world problems called—they said even they’re embarrassed for you.”
  8. “You’re basically a hero for putting up with those seats. Someone should start a GoFundMe.”
  9. "Oh no, your exclusive, sold-out, once-in-a-lifetime season tickets are causing you distress? Whatever are you going to do?"

Yeah. All those people who supported Penn State wrestling during Lorenzo, Fritz and Sunderland years can go pound sand. Let the bandwagon jumpers with money to burn move ahead of them. :ROFLMAO:
As almost one of those people, I think this is sad. Pricing out the loyal fans is a shame. Bound to happen though.

Who is more loyal? Someone showing up for cheap seats or someone sitting in those same seats providing more of the lifeblood of college athletic programs— $$$$$. It ain’t your grandpa’s college sports anymore. Those seats will be filled with or without you.

The wrestling team has lost money every year for many years.

Therefore the football team is subsidizing wrestling, and people complaining about ticket prices are in reality wanting higher subsidies.

Our four seats jumped from $ 808.00 to $ 988.00 this season. Three matches at the BJC as everyone knows with Oklahoma being the worst match Of the three.

I am almost one of the bandwagon jumpers with money to burn. I am filling those seats, and have been since 2015 or so. I pick and choose matches to attend. Most of the time I am the one filling those seats as the original purchaser cannot make the event.
I guess I have some sympathy for the guy and his wife who had tickets for 25+ years and now are being priced out.
Some people I know have seats because their grandfather had those seats 45+ years ago, now their dad has them.

I have four BJC seats in Sec. 123L, second row. It's a bargain. I'm happy to support the dynasty.
Agree.. I am in 105 and the seats are great. I will say I still thing Rec is a better environment for wrestling but I am not upset with this seasons schedule of 3 at BJC...

The problem is the trend. Two things are apparent. One, eventually all, or almost all, of the matches will be at BJC. Two, the uptick in price for BJC matches in comparison to Rec Hall matches used to be minimal. This season the price, as stated above, is triple for BJC matches ($57). Last season, they were $50. That was a big jump from the season before. So tickets in three seasons have gone from in the $30s to $50 to $57. How's the trend look? Let's say in three seasons the price per dual is $100 and all seven home duals are in BJC. Now the price for a season ticket has gone from $200 in 2024-25 to $700 in four seasons. That's pretty egregious. And it's just the start. People wonder how the prices for concerts have exploded. Smh.

Do you really feel they are pricing people out? 250$ for an entire season of wrestling? Is it peanuts??... no.. but pricing people out? Hardly..
Some people are.

Another way to look at it is: everyone has paid sub-market prices forever, while the product continually loses money.

People are still paying sub-market prices, and will for many more years, because PSU would rather raise prices gradually to avoid the shock of ripping off the bandage. (And I don't disagree with PSU here, but it is a luxury position that football revenue makes possible.)

Meanwhile, that $250 will buy one ticket for the first half against FIU and maybe a water, but not a parking space or the 2nd half. Wrestling is still a major bargain.

We used to be driving a Ford Escort. Now, we like the Lambo, but want the Escort price.
At least we never drove a Ford Focus.

I can’t believe anyone is complaining about paying $250 for SEASON tickets. To the greatest dynasty in college sports.
Do they realize major high school wrestling tournaments are charging people $50 entry fees per day? Youth tournament weekends might set you back $150 for the parents to see their kids wrestle.
FMV for the season tickets is probably over $1000. And I might be conservative with that figure. The program is kind enough to ratchet up the undervalued tickets slowly instead of gouging with some “seat licensing” plan that is standard for high-demand tickets nowadays or a ridiculous Nittany Lion Club minimum “points” donation and we have people on here complaining about being priced out. $250 is not being priced out for anyone, not even someone on a fixed income. It’s $20/ month.

I paid over 400 dollars to take wife and two granddaughters to one viewing of The Musical Christmas Story (in December).
I am going to pay just a bit more for my grandson and me to see what is it 7 matches.

While I appreciate the talent and skills necessary to perform in that musical, I have a greater understanding and appreciation for those wrestlers' efforts. There is a point of diminishing returns, but my guess is Penn State is still letting millions of dollars on the table by not maxing out what they could bring in with this wrestling program.
If they are leaving money on the table, it is tough to argue they are gouging.

One way to tell: look at prices on the secondary market -- that's what people are willing to pay.

Cheapest available tickets on StubHub:
Oklahoma $227
Lehigh $148
Rutger $146
Indiana $166
Nebraska $278
anOSU $447
Princeton $126
Total $1,538

If we set Ohio State = Oklahoma, the total = $1,318. More than 5x the season ticket price.

Yes, this is an imperfect comparison -- cheaper tickets might appear on StubHub later. Still, point being that PSU tickets are priced at a steep discount relative to market value.

Exactly, sell your seats to a PSU fan for OSU and it pays off your season tix.

I have the best deal in the world. I get the tix and PsuPaul drives.

Your last paragraph is a head scratcher. Tickets for that game were available for a fraction of that price. Somewhere down the line, BJC tickets that cannot be sold or resold will be priced accordingly to get butts in seats.

Wrestling is a lot cheaper in terms of total commitment. Parking is far cheaper. Time in and out of venue and lots is waaaay less. No material traffic in/out of town. Rooms, if needed, are less. Dining options are more accessible.
