Fire... Uh... Fire Coach Brumbaugh?

Am I allowed to use these guys as reasons to whine about Brumbaugh?

Can I use Big Z, Bud, Johnson, and Rumph as examples of Brumbaugh's ineptitude? Guys, I'm scared. Uh.... Uh.... Our OLine is turrubl?

In all seriousness, it's nice to see two solid contributors coming in. I look forward to watching them compete and provide depth. Whoooo boy.

It appears that the staff has two types of dends they are recruiting. Miggins and Carter look like dtackles where Bell and kg appear longer and leaner athletes

Funny post. Tell us just how good our penetration was into their backfield? Stopping the run?
Either we have not performed well on the line or we need to ditch the 3-4 because its clearly has not worked for us.

I'm no master of the 3-4, but I thought that penetration was icing on the cake and simply taking away downfield blockers from their Linebacker targets was the main goal of the 3-4 line.

I'm not really sure whose backfield you're referring to. Would that be the great SEC teams with solid SEC lines or just the decent SEC teams with mediocre SEC lines (that are still vastly superior in both talent and depth to what Joker DLine recruits could hope to overpower [and in addition, that our line has yet to have a satisfactory mixture of depth, talent, and experience to compete with these lines])?

Just because something doesn't work doesn't mean you throw it out. We've recruited the best we can to this point for the 3-4. We're in it for the long haul.

We've not had cohesion to this point and still have JUCOs littering the line.

I'm not saying we've had All-SEC line play. What I am, however, is satire. I trust that Stoops recognizes good defensive coaching. I'm basically trying to say that I'm tired of people calling for coach's heads.

I think I've hijacked this enough. I'm seriously looking forward to seeing these two in action, although I realize that they'd be newbies tasting the SEC for the first time. The fact that we're excited that newbies could make it into our two-deep is downright scary and testament to the challenge Coach B has in front of him. IMO.

Godspeed, Brumbaugh.

Miggins is a DT in our 3-4. Bell is a SDE, and is one of the 3. Daniel is likely the WDE/Jack position.

Hard to say whether Carter will be a DT or a SDE.

From what I've read it sounds like Carter may be a real steal. 6-4 275 and he passes the look test.

They both look like they can get it done, and soon, but I'd hope both will RS. They are pretty well built kids, but I'd be willing to bet they aren't going to have the stamina to play significant snaps, even if their talents might make you want to let them have a run at it. I'm just making an assumption based on their youth, however.

The point becomes...do they have the strength, speed, quickness and understanding what's required of their position to compete at a high level? This is the SEC, they're 18y/o going up against 22-23 y/o who've been in a college S/C program for 4-5 years. I'd hope they'd RS and dominate as 5th yr srs than be mismatched as true frosh.

Amen to that. They already pass the look test, but a RS year in the S&C program would benefit them tremendously.

I don't think people are claiming immediate help is here. Hopefully they both rs. Hopefully they both play sparingly as rs freshman. And hopefully they are ready to play prominent rolls as rs sophs going forward.

Buttttt.... they pass the look test for true freshmen. No big wonders about can they cut weight/gain weight. They are close to ideal weight wise. They just need to get stronger and more explosive and learn the craft.

IMO the power backs in the SEC make running a five man front tough. RB's getting to the second level with fewer defenders in pursuit is a loser for most defenses.

And he lined up at DE today with Looney at DT and Cross at NT. Saying SDE is a bit of a misnomer. Our DE and DT don't flip in our base package so the DE should be labeled DE or RDE.

Runs a 4.70 forty, has a very quick first step. Not the kind of speed you'd expect from a guy that massive.
