Funny post. Tell us just how good our penetration was into their backfield? Stopping the run?
Either we have not performed well on the line or we need to ditch the 3-4 because its clearly has not worked for us.
I'm no master of the 3-4, but I thought that penetration was icing on the cake and simply taking away downfield blockers from their Linebacker targets was the main goal of the 3-4 line.
I'm not really sure whose backfield you're referring to. Would that be the great SEC teams with solid SEC lines or just the decent SEC teams with mediocre SEC lines (that are still vastly superior in both talent and depth to what Joker DLine recruits could hope to overpower [and in addition, that our line has yet to have a satisfactory mixture of depth, talent, and experience to compete with these lines])?
Just because something doesn't work doesn't mean you throw it out. We've recruited the best we can to this point for the 3-4. We're in it for the long haul.
We've not had cohesion to this point and still have JUCOs littering the line.
I'm not saying we've had All-SEC line play. What I am, however, is satire. I trust that Stoops recognizes good defensive coaching. I'm basically trying to say that I'm tired of people calling for coach's heads.
I think I've hijacked this enough. I'm seriously looking forward to seeing these two in action, although I realize that they'd be newbies tasting the SEC for the first time. The fact that we're excited that newbies could make it into our two-deep is downright scary and testament to the challenge Coach B has in front of him. IMO.
Godspeed, Brumbaugh.
