I like Watt and he's a HOF'er but thats a lot of money for someone who has had some injury issues the last few years. 🤷‍♂️
Hopefully he does not break down like his brother. Has zero playoff wins and some hints of recurring injuries. A teams that in a bygone era left Franco Harris walk with the career rushing record in sight seems to accommodate the stars these days , perhaps to its detriment.

Jerry's excuse for waiting is that he wants to see where the market goes. The market for elite NFL players never goes down doofus. There's a reason why Dallas' last appearance in the conference championship game was 30 years ago. Don't ever change, Jerry.
They waited with CeeDee and it burnt them bad. Jerry likes the publicity, positive or negative. He drags it out so his name is in the news.

Good grief. That was 40 years ago and it appears like they made the right move by letting Harris walk. He only played one more season in Seattle, appearing in just 8 games and rushing for just 170 yards for the season. Hopefully, Watt has a few good years left. It’s only a 3 year deal, so they aren’t on the hook for too long. The team record with him vs without is undeniable.

And he’s still chasing Saquon on that swing pass in the Big Ten Championship game.
Yes. As you have said before. But that’s a coaching mismatch for everyone. No RB at any level would be able to cover Saquon, or most RBs, on that route.

Not comparing Watt to Franco as players at the time. The point is not to let sentiments rule your business decisions. 40 years ago but the same family ownership. There's a different approach today. Art, Jr. is no Dan Rooney, as one can see by the lack of success recently.

Watt is a terrific player who is on the wrong side of 30. While the cap hit is not awful when the new contract kicks in this is a team in need of talent infusion. They are projected to finish 3rd in the division. Committing that kind of money to an aging veteran for a team going nowhere fast is a gamble.

The cap in the next few years is going up significantly. The XM guys talked about this a few weeks ago. You can get away with paying guys this amount and it not being anywhere close to the handcuff under the cap that it was before. Watt is aging, no doubt, but until he got hurt against the Eagles last year, he was a one man wrecking crew. If he is fully healthy again, and can have that same impact, a three year deal isn’t unreasonable. Plus, they now have Herbig and Sawyer to learn under him and give him a breather every now and then. The other thing to consider is that they have been acquiring draft picks for next year. They have 12 draft picks next year, so there is an opportunity to turn the roster over and get younger very quickly. Plus, rookie contracts are much more team friendly so a younger roster would cost less allowing for the bigger cap hits from the veterans. Khan is known to be pretty savvy with managing the roster and cap space.
