I would never want a ref attacked. I understand HS refs are one of the lowest levels so the skill is less than higher levels.

I just want refs to be fair. Try being a Charlotte area school and play a game in the mountains. It’s almost sickening what happens. Just call the game fair! There is no place for home cooking in sports.

When Charlotte teams play in the mountains in my experience have to play the refs also.

When Charlotte teams play in the mountains in my experience have to play the refs also.

I guess that's why there are so many mountain teams winning the Western Conference. That's maybe the most ridiculous thing I've seen on here.

Sad fact loads of seasoned umpires, referees and officials from all kinds of sports have retired and it shows. Lots of guys who either don't know the rules of sports or just don't enforce them.
Literally half the football teams can't get lined up and sit still in a proper formation 50% of the time. Very simple stuff. This isn't my opinion....go watch any game, at any HS level.

Last night this was called a "facemask" against Freedom, which overturned a fumble recovery, allowed St. Stephens to retain possession and kept their drive which tied the game alive. We need the refs in high school sports and I'm glad there are still guys out there calling the games, but they are not above criticism when they get things clearly wrong.

I dont see how anyone would subject themselves to being a ref nowadays. To give up your free time for a few bucks to be berated non-stop is not my cup of team but much respect to the ones that do.

I agree with you. About 3/4 of them should be doing something else. If you aren't any good at something then why do it? I don't go to football games to see ref fests. They're not berated non-stop just when they make themselves the focal point of the game. The refs at the SP and Crest game called 3 penalties and no one on either sideline complained. All the other games they sucked. Shelby and Crest fans agree on nothing but we all agree that the refs when we played each other were AWFUL.

It's every game. They call phantom holding penalties 50 yards away from the play just has the ball crosses the goal-line. Then the very next play the white hat is staring at an obvious hold and looks the other way. It's happened several times.

Wishy washy crap. If you're going to do something. Do it right or Don't do it. If I suck on my job then they will say bye. There is a reason North Carolina doesn't allow replays at games. Do you know what that reason is?

I think SP did have a few bad calls go against them ( in the Crest game) and we have had those as well. I'm just saying that this year it is obvious that it has been subpar and it's ruining the games and not just for the fans, it's the kids who put in the time and work just to have it come down to a couple blind underprepared refs to ruin their time.

Good points Rulz.....replay should 100 percent be allowed...the tech is there lets us it.

Its wild how you can get tackled for a loss BUT get a first down. At least the interception on the next play brought things back to reality.
