To the LA coaches

To the LA coaching staff:
The good news - you won the game. The bad news - There needs to be much improvement next week if you expect to win.
Let’s start with the offense. Take the quarterback sneak play from the number 1 or 2 play in your book to number 20. It’s creates unnecessary exposure for the qb and teams now know you love that play and will be ready for it. Also, you have found with the sophomore rb the elite backfield speed lacking since the state title team. He is without doubt one of the top 3 rb’s in the state in terms of speed and quickness. Be smart and run the plays that suit his style: jet sweeps, counters, misdirections, motions, etc.. It’s not enough to just run him up the middle. Also, when he’s in, throw the ball to keep the opposing defenses from keying on him. Now the most important constructive advice; The playoffs have started. Do not go into a shell. Loosen up and increase the velocity of your play calls. Do not slow the game down with the conservative play calling. Your team averaged 30 points a game or so. Let the opposing team try to slow the game down, don’t do it for them. Make it fun for the kids with the right atmosphere and play calling and you can be unstoppable.
Defense: Yestreday’s 4th quarter was your mulligan for the year. The secondary needs to play smarter and tighter. HC has a good passing attack. More importantly, the d line needs to get to the qb quicker. To the de Armani: Bull rushing and knocking heads is not enough. Work with the coaching staff this week, ie. rip, swim, up and under and many more moves which coach Deshereax can teach you.
Special teams: The punting game was outstanding. The punt receiving team needs to stop fair catching the darn ball on almost every punt. Special teams are not an afterthought and need to pick up yards or possibly flip the field.
To the team; HAVE FUN. This may never happen again. I am not saying to lose the intensity, but mistakes will happen out there, but they need to roll off your back.
Onward and Upward to HC, the little engine that could. Go Ramblers!

Nice common sense post .I think Frank took the same approach down here at MC this week. Players were relaxed, ready, no pressure and showed their true selves. C
Great coaches at times need to take a step back every year to evaluate the approach.

Gforce5:

This is a gentle reminder the coaching staff at LA is fully aware of its strengths and weaknesses. I would recommend you not use the forum to advance armchair observations at them.

Interpret this as you choose, but I will emphasize it is a mild-tempered post intended for your benefit.

In his eleventh year, John has amassed a handful of CCL titles, has won 132 games, lost a trifling 26, has winning records against all CCL opponents, regularly makes deep runs into the post-season, has reached the title game four times, achieved a state title, and averages an astounding twelve victories a season.

I think John knows what he is doing and what to do next.

Reminds me of my very first Hetlet experience in the Summer before my oldest’s freshman year. The annual parents gathering is chance to let everyone knows that he gives zero f*€£s about how smart we parents are and that no matter how much ball we played in our lives, he and his coaching staff spent ten times the hours considering every possible alternative to every situation and that they were quite comfortable making the decisions that impact the product on the field.

That left this board as my only outlet, but I didn’t post until I spent a few years watching it all unfold. My initial knee jerk “why the hell would you?”’s turned into “it might not be my style but I totally get why he/they do that.”

Taking one game in a vacuum and blowing out frustration (it was a win right?), usually leads to huge regret and possible humiliation. My first time on the board, I used a handle that provided me anonymity and might have shared some prickly thoughts. Then I realized that it was better to own it and make sure I could stand behind my opinions on face to face challenge if need be. That way I tempered my more extreme thoughts knowing I personally, or my kid indirectly, would pay a price for my mouthing off.

My only regret was discussing injuries once. I may call out the team, like I did after week 1, but that was there for all to see and was not news to the staff. In this case, Hetlet and crew knew they needed a rebuild and the last nine weeks are proof that they know how to do that as well.

Sometimes you just gotta take the long view. And always best to steer clear of the keyboard when you’ve had a few too many high balls.

With all due respect Witty, and I mean this, with all due respect (a little Ricky Bobby): this is the appropriate forum for GF's post. Based on GForce's history on this board, I believe that his heart is in the right place. His posts are always positive and he has a strong football acumen. Let's not move towards the practice of censoring one another. Thats Edgy's job ;)

Furthermore, I am under no misconception to believe that I know more about football than John, or any member if his staff (I do not), but there is nothing wrong with a fan questioning a coach's approach after a game - even if it is only HS football. And yes Newt, I agree with you that holecek could care less about what's posted on any HS football site. In fact, I guarantee that he doesn't read any of it. This site is aimed at losers like us who want to relive our glory days.

Note: Beau's last name is spelled Desherow. I assume that unintentional oversight by GForce was due to an autocorrect issue. My phone did the same thing. I played with and was a close friend of his brother Mike (RIP my brother). Mike was the best damn football player I ever played with.

Bowie:

He has tossed or temporarily banned posters for doing as much or approaching the threshold.
It's not something I would post, but let's let Edgy make to call. That's all I'm saying. Why do you feel empowered to censor other's contributions?

I don't; and my post at him was to help him avoid getting his hand slapped.

Not to mention, doesn't Gooms blast ND coaches every other comment (hyperbole intended)??? I love Gooms' contributions. Makes for a fun forum.

understood. My apologies, but it’s easy to misinterpret intent on social media forums - as we all know.

Open mic on the video feed at Huntley and there were some dads with wisdom.

EVILLE regains the ball with less than three minutes and they run a play ... clock continues to click away. Huntley has two timeouts. “Use your timeouts!!!!”

EVILLE runs another a play - Zim stops the clock immediately. And another and the game played out exactly is coach planned. Got the ball back with a minute left and 70 yards to cover. He - like many coaches - had planned the situation out and knew better than the idiot screaming did.

Same dad screamed “concussion protocol” o few times to make sure the EVILL q.b. had to leave the game for a snap.

Thanks Bowie: in no form or fashion do I profess to know nearly as much as thr LA coaching staff. Coach Holocek in particular. They breathe this stuff all year long while we losers engage during the winter months. In the strictest sense, I was merely pointing out what I saw. In my mind, in a forum like this, we can give constructive criticism without malice or ill intent. Also, I care deeply for LA. My kids and I proudly graduated from there. The lax program helped pay for my two daughters college ( thanks coach Dwyer ). Although I don’t have a son on the team, many of my circle of friends do. As we get together on Saturday around the north side of the fence, it’s a joyous time for us enjoying some excellent football and heading to Myers afterwards for some libations.

i am sure all of the HS coaching staff''s across the state on Sunday morning "scour" the multiple blogs to see how they are doing and to pick up tips from pro's like us ! That being said for LA - Hopefully Boyle is back and the Ramblers figure out what went south in the 4th quarter with the pass defense. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.......hopefully ! Onto the "Grey Poupon Bowl" .............

Pretty sure the official title is the Beth Bowl, brought to you by Grey Poupon.

Good luck this weekend

Hey Capn does this thread remind you slightly of the one where a Hitter fan called out Coach Hetlet and then Hetlet came on here and called him out on it?
I was thinking the same thing. When Big C 80 came on here and laid the smack down!

That was awesome!
"Silver helmet the Hitter Nation thanks you for your support !! God Bless you for sharing your true feelings. I'm more than happy to take heat for a high school football loss and always will. My players have fought with everything they have like they do every week and have for the last ten years! Love my players and we will fight on ! If you feel another coach would be better to lead this team then why don't you step up and do it ??? As for me I will continue to thank God for everyday he blesses me and my family with. Have a blessed day ! Go Hitters"

Exactly! Someone like MS4ever has the thread by date, but I'm pretty sure that comment convinced me to drop the veil of anonymity. I am comfortable sharing potentially controversial comments, but calling people out by name or suggesting they haven't thought through their decisions is another thing. Better if everyone knows who to point at when sticking your neck out.

I'm pretty sure that game gave Loyola the punch in the face they needed to play a full game.

Speaking of full game, how often do the Ramblers have to play a full game? I've been thinking about this in relation to the NT game.

It would be interesting to go back and review the quarter by quarter scoring in LA games this year and over the past several years. I guarantee you that LA scores way more in the first half of games than the second. I also guarantee that a lot of bench players saw considerable PT during the second half of games this year and in the past several years. If you start and aren't used to playing a full game does that mean you are fresher at this time of the season and SHOULD be able to finish games strong(er)? Or does it mean that you aren't used to playing a full game and you get gassed when you do have to play one?

I don't think its physical - its mental. When or if LA gets a big lead, I believe the entire teams' intensity level goes down. That's natural for any team. The coaches are also respectful of the other team and really don't care to run up the score. They take the foot off the gas ( which many of us are glad to see ). They put in the back ups to the back ups many times which I am also glad to see as well. The NT game was weird because those two teams just do not like one another. I was most surprised by the large lead we had going into the 4th quarter. The vibe towards HC will be different I am certain.
