To the LA coaching staff:
The good news - you won the game. The bad news - There needs to be much improvement next week if you expect to win.
Let’s start with the offense. Take the quarterback sneak play from the number 1 or 2 play in your book to number 20. It’s creates unnecessary exposure for the qb and teams now know you love that play and will be ready for it. Also, you have found with the sophomore rb the elite backfield speed lacking since the state title team. He is without doubt one of the top 3 rb’s in the state in terms of speed and quickness. Be smart and run the plays that suit his style: jet sweeps, counters, misdirections, motions, etc.. It’s not enough to just run him up the middle. Also, when he’s in, throw the ball to keep the opposing defenses from keying on him. Now the most important constructive advice; The playoffs have started. Do not go into a shell. Loosen up and increase the velocity of your play calls. Do not slow the game down with the conservative play calling. Your team averaged 30 points a game or so. Let the opposing team try to slow the game down, don’t do it for them. Make it fun for the kids with the right atmosphere and play calling and you can be unstoppable.
Defense: Yestreday’s 4th quarter was your mulligan for the year. The secondary needs to play smarter and tighter. HC has a good passing attack. More importantly, the d line needs to get to the qb quicker. To the de Armani: Bull rushing and knocking heads is not enough. Work with the coaching staff this week, ie. rip, swim, up and under and many more moves which coach Deshereax can teach you.
Special teams: The punting game was outstanding. The punt receiving team needs to stop fair catching the darn ball on almost every punt. Special teams are not an afterthought and need to pick up yards or possibly flip the field.
To the team; HAVE FUN. This may never happen again. I am not saying to lose the intensity, but mistakes will happen out there, but they need to roll off your back.
Onward and Upward to HC, the little engine that could. Go Ramblers!
