Early in the game, one of the announcers talked about how Beran could manipulate being covered by the opposing center. Made sense and I watched. I’m off the Beran train. If he is hurt, ok, but get his minutes down. If not...

Looking to next season with a glimmer on hope on this one:

Buie - have to break him out or expect to sit him next year
Berry - let’s find out what is here. Between him and Beran, ready to try berry at Beran minutes. Beran has to earn his minutes in my mind.
Xxx - see below
Nance - another forced out of position scenario like we saw at PG two years ago. CCC keeps doing this. Vassal at PG. Gaines at PG.
Young - fundamentally sound, not flashy, but played better than Beran in the least.

Xxx can be audidge or kopp. We have seen good kopp or ghost kopp. We have seen on fire audidge and cold or terrible decision audidge. Start with matchup strength and close with the hot hand. Between the two, they take the majority of six man minutes.

Nicholson has a big body. He becomes sub for the five. Beran gets time as deserved with Gaines as the alternative. Greer picks up as needed on the guard side.

But less Beran. No more nance at five. And let’s find out what berry is. We have players coming in - figure out the open spots now. And where we need to recruit.

Meh.

Including tonight loss, Collins has won 33% of his B1G games (46 of 139).

In 13 years, Carmody won 32% of his (70 of 220).

Seems like the same old same old NU. 21 years of futility and counting. You can move the pieces around the chess board all you like but the end result is NU isn't good at basketball.

Is Beran last year’s Nance and relegated to the bench, working his way to earn minutes? Appears to make sense. Except CC believes Nance and Young belonged on the court together last season, but this season will self combust if playing together.

More of the same today. So many mistakes. Even on defense, for 10 minutes positioning was awful, losing where WI players were all the time.

But mostly, who is responsible for the shot selection? Collins is back to mad dog status on the sideline. No coach can magically make the ball go in. But every coach can make his team avoid bad shots. Starts on practice, stop play, bark, etc. Is he now demanding the players do what he preaches? Only now? Been going on for a while.

And through all this, no changes to starting five. No leaving lesser players out there to prove a point of you do what I want or you don’t play. Heck I’d take getting ejected just to prove frustration. Or going to full court press just to send a message that things have to be different.

Not going to repeat stuff I’ve written here, but this is pitiful. The answer is not that we just don’t have the players. Or just to say we are on course, about to break through.

Losing not anything to feel ashamed of. Only looking decent in a couple of games, much more worrisome.

There seems to be little consistency from any of the players, which is disappointing considering some of them have considerable experience by now.
