that the archerfish, which uses a stream of water to knock insects off of plants hanging over or near water, are insanely accurate. Not only that, but young archerfish will follow older archerfish around for a day watching them.....when they were not accurate prior to the day long apprenticeship, they become as accurate following the day of learning. We still don't know why.

Firing from under water, that doesn't seem easy.

Thanks...good story. I glad those young archerfish weren't forced to watch cartoons all day long.

I read about a device for the blind they're working on at MIT. Right now blind people use a cane, which is kinda old fashioned but it does have the benefit of signalling to other people that the person is blind. But this new device is a camera that hangs around the wearers neck that creates a 3D image. And the wearer also wears three devices around the waist, one right in front and one on each side.

When the wearer comes within a couple meters of a wall or whatever the appropriate device vibrates a bit. If the obstacle is directly in front of the wearer the device on their front vibrates. If the obstacle is a bit to their left then the device on their left side vibrates. Etc. And the closer they get to the obstacle the more it vibrates. In tests so far it does a lot better than just a cane.

You might think they'd just have an automated voice tell the blind person where an obstacle is but they say that blind people already depend so much on sound that they don't want to add to that and instead the devices work better.

Last year's was bad ***. I think this year's is a bit of a let down, but how many more times does one get a chance to see Willie again before the inevitable happens?

Today I learned that vue.js is just like any other javascript environment. There's 100 ways to do something, but one is the easiest and standard. Too bad it's usually the last one you come across.

Oh, I already knew that a new javascript environment will be coming out next month, I'm sure.
