Florida coach Todd Golden said Thursday he doesn't agree that Charles Bediako should be able to play for Alabama this season.

But he also said if Bediako is allowed to suit up when the teams meet Feb. 1 in Gainesville, it's not going to matter.


"We're going to beat 'em anyways," Golden said during an appearance on "Gator Talk." "If he plays, we'll beat 'em anyways."

To be honest, I feel like the outrageousness of it is getting blown out of proportion a little bit. It would alter the current system a little bit if remaining in the NBA draft instead of withdrawing before a deadline no longer completely disqualifies a player from returning to college, and there’s a decent argument that shouldn’t be allowed to happen just for the sake of maintaining some order.

At the heart of it though, Bediako is a 23 year old who’s trying to play after a few years bouncing around the G League. Everyone acting like that’s a desperate act of pure evil while being totally ok with multiple teams even just within the SEC bringing in early 20s players from high level Euro leagues is a little weird.

I don’t know about desperate acts of pure evil, but college basketball needs to define this issue. If players on NBA contracts can play, we are a short step away from the OADs in the league finishing their college careers after they play in the NBA.

BTW, the players from Europe and even the G-league are players who never before played in college.

CB hasn't been officially denied eligibility yet by the NCAA until the outcome of the hearing.

Yeah after hearing Mike Decourcy's take on it with Leach this mornign I agree its not the aggrecious sin it seems when you have the whole story. The guy signed contracts but never played in an NBA game and his circumstances to leave were a little unique. As a foreign player he was not eligible for NIL like others so made a tough bud bad decision to leave at the time and is getting a do-over in effect.

So this case could be one of those exceptions kinda like Enes Kanter being stuck in a tough spot, and could let a Bama slide a little on it for pursuing a unique case . . .but we all know we all know we cant trust coaches to just pursue things like this in "exceptional" cased and they will eventually us push it further and further along that slipper slope to pursue all kinds of former players to get an edge. They are short sided like everybody else in getting caught up in the moment of competition not realizing they are just speeding up the ruin of the whole product in the process

I googled it last night & it said that a GL contract is a professional contract, it said that it's a professional environment for an NBA minor league team. Depends on what the NCAA thinks & not Google though lol.

That's kind of the case Alabama has for playing him, other schools are playing kids from Euro/pro contracts & the NCAA made them eligible, question is, where does this eligibility thing end now that they get paid?

I’m not sure I really think a sense of moral right and wrong is really that clear cut when the subject is trying to split hairs over which 20-23 year olds should be eligible to play in certain basketball games. I respect those who think it’s more honorable to still voluntarily follow the old rules even if they may no longer be enforceable, but his justification isn’t totally nonsensical either. The fallout from the NCAA’s entire former business model more or less being declared illegal in court without any replacement regulations being passed has been quite messy.

Yeah he got banged up… aka we are gonna wait until a federal judge nukes this into the ether because it was found out our local judge is a donor. This is a huge issue not only for basketball but because a judge actually approved this nonsense. Imagine them doing this for something that doesn’t really matter so imagine how crooked they are for things that affect people rights and freedoms. SMH.

Nobody talks about the European system though. It’s totally different from US grassroots basketball and the education system is even different. They aren’t the same things. The pro leagues over there function like colleges do here.

The difference is Pate never entered the draft nor played in college. That is the big difference to me. You can’t play in college, stay in the draft, and then return years later. That is the dumbest crap ever.
