I used to say it was a thing of not having the talent, but seeing how even hwc guys like Spencer aren’t shooting anymore its clear that TnT are just washed and riding the coat tails of the Iowa brand + resources.

There is a different between telling guys to shoot more and teaching them to do it without overexposing themselves. That is what PSU does better than anyone. Their elite footwork, balance, and hand fighting make their takedowns look easy.

I think they’re actually fighting less and that’s who they they are. From watching the sidelines they may be ready to leave the current landscape. There have been multiple times this year where I thought they would mix it up and they didn’t, their fire may be changing.

It’s not sustainable to keep piecing our lineup together with the portal and us reaching out to guys to get them. We’ve been prolonging the inevitable. We are the only program that has drama year after year. I go to 3-4 meets a year and watch the rest of them on TV. I’m done with that until something changes. It’s like our program took cues from our football team and just rely on defense.
I bet he contributes like the guy from happy Gilmore just pops up and says jack ***! and runs away. Loli contribute to the program in multiple ways
You make a good point. Is the AD, Beth Goetz, visible at meets? I suspect she is but wouldn’t know to see her. The PSU AD is Pat Kraft and he’s seen sitting right near the bench at every home meet. He’s closely aware of the wrestling team, I suspect Beth is too. She seems like she’s pretty sharp. From what I’ve read, she’s gotta be seeing what you fans are, good or bad.

Honestly, if you’re still okay with what we’re seeing, that feels pretty casual to me. I grew up going to Carver and watching the Hawks. I had TNT posters on my bedroom wall and went to their camps. I’ll always love and respect what they've done for Iowa wrestling, but if you can’t see that it’s time to move on, you care more about the coach than the future of the actual program. The definition of a casual.

Spencer Lee covered up a lot, but if you actually follow the sport, these problems have been obvious for close to a decade. Iowa has struggled with offensive wrestling, finishing takedowns, and wrestling from every position, and it usually comes back to bite them in March. We also always seem to have seniors crawling to the finish line (e.g. Ayala's circle was telling people at National Duals that he's burnt out).
Outside of Spencer, the last Iowa HS recruit to win a title was Cory Clark. That should tell you something. Guess what year Cory graduated HS..

I don’t think it would help now. My point was maybe ten years ago it could have and that would have meant replacing all three assistants. But no I don’t it would help now which is why I started out by saying I’m in favor of a complete overhaul.

The changing assistant coaches ship left the dock a few years back. It needs to be a house cleaning now. Beth should contact Dan and a few other legends have a closed door meeting and get some input before she makes a decision on who.

I know Gable made comments that made it sound like he was on board with Jim Z getting fired, but I think Z rejected his help and advice, and Tom has always embraced it, even brought him out of retirement for a year. Not sure if Gable would dump him.
