And he didn't screw it up.He inherited a very good team.
He also proves why it's absolutely imperative to hire a guy with head coaching experience. Oh, wait a minute....You need a roster full of 4 and 5 stars to compete with the big boys of college football. That's what I hear from our fans every year. [sick]

Weren't you just hammering that dual threat QB that was unranked, that coaches just offered to come to Kentucky?
Seems like you're contradicting yourself here.

Well...not really. The beat FSU team that was playing a ruefully freshman QB with a cast on his foot for most of the game. And again, one game does not prove anything in terms of depth. How do you think Houston would have faired if they were playing their 3rd string in key positions? You need a roster full of 4 and 5 stars to compete with the big boys of college football. That's what I hear from our fans every year. [sick]
I think he is a great coach. I also think they just prove that TX HS football is very good and a 3* from there may not be equal to 3* from elsewhere...
Florida and TX are states that I'd up my thoughts on a recruit due to the competition they have been exposed to.
Also think it helped going up against a hobbled 2nd string QB and a 3rd stringer.
Nice win for Houston but FSU also couldn't beat a horrible GT team.

The point is that we can't even develop our 4 star talent like Hatcher, Horton, Towles or Ware (who apparently has never seen a read option before) and now we're taking some kid who needs a lot of coaching up and expect him to save us if Barker gets hurt? Sorry I'm not buying it (anymore anyway).
Don't need a roster full of 4 and 5 stars to get through the AAC...or beat a down FSU with a second string QB with his foot all taped up...
we beat an FSU squad in a bowl game once as well...and Clemson...
but I agree with the idea that coaching, developing, scheme, play calling, and execution are all just as important if not more important...
but let's not forget that regardless of their class rankings, Houston has roster full of Texas talent...
...in a lot of cases a 3 star from the lone star is about equal to a 4 star from Ohio, Kentucky, and just about anywhere else...hell a good 2 star from the Houston area would probably dominate the kentucky high school football ranks and be all state...
It's why Baylor, TCU, and Tech can all field competitive teams...Mike Leach never had a losing season with the raiders because of it...
Texas needs to be the next target for Stoops...after he establishes something in florida...he needs to head west...
i'll take the left overs from texas over the leftovers from Ohio any day of the week...
Easier to win a bowl against power five after building up cause confidence against lesser opponents all year. No doubt he's a good coach, but it doesn't compare to being in the SEC WEST
He's a good coach, but today was just the latest example of team A beating team B in a bowl game, not because A was better, but because A was fired up about playing and B was disinterested. Happens several, times every year. So, yeah for Houston, they played well, they deserved to win, FSU got what they had coming, etc. But don't tell me Houston is the better team, at least not based on today. Same as when Utah beat Bama, Louisville beat Florida, and on and on and on.....You need a roster full of 4 and 5 stars to compete with the big boys of college football. That's what I hear from our fans every year. [sick]
Yea because Tony Levine was just killing it before he got fired last year. Go check out their recruiting rankings if you believe that. Herman is just a top notch coach. It doesn't take long to see if you know what you're doing or not. Look in our own conference at Dan Mullen for further proof. He inherited a dumpster fire at MSU and got it rolling in Year 2.

P.S. Even if I'm wrong and you want to argue Houston went toe to toe with might FSU and beat them down with 3 stars......there's a difference between doing it once, and doing it repeatedly like you have to in the SEC WEST....

You don't think it's Petrino? I'm shocked. It's always fun to debate who the best coach in college football is. I tend to give the nod to Urban over Saban because he has the better coaching tree.

Dan Mullen is in a state with a lot more talent than Kentucky and can supplement roster holes with the MS JUCO systemYea because Tony Levine was just killing it before he got fired last year. i was at those two games against FSU and Clemson in what some in the BBN are now calling the Banjo Bowl. I seemed more excited to be there than the Tigers and Noles. See how that works?
I know it to be true. And, so does Herman.
Go back and read my posts throughout the years. I'm as die hard UK as anyone but I'm tired of accepting excuses.

I was at both of those games as well. The only reason some UK fans have been calling the Music City Bowl the Banjo Bowl is because that's all we heard, ad nauseam from the UL fans. See how that works?
I said I will still be at home watching every minute on tv. I will just choose not to go to the games until I see a better product on the field. What you should have said was IF they win i'll be a fan..................Sorry but that's not a diehard fan.
If you can't see Houston is a well coached team then you need to get your eyes checked. With that said, UH doesn't quite have the road UK has when it comes to tough competition week in and week out or the recruit battle in conference. You see plenty of upsets come bowl season but still Houston would blow us off the field
UK had the 60th ranked schedule in the country. Have no idea what Houston's was - it doesn't really matter -but UK doesn't have it so bad week in and week out playing in the SECE.
We will never know but Florida had a cakewalk through the east and they aren't very good. I think Houston is much better.
