Coach Gibson is working his way up to becoming a head coach candidate himself. Every year under Gibson the defense has gotten better. Great recruiter a fairly young and very energetic guy. Selfishly I want to keep Gibby as long as we can but I would understand if he left to take a head coach position maybe at a G5 school. Maybe even head coach at WVU one day?

Our defense is hardly special... ..and certainly not even regulary 'good'.

Still, Gibson has a lot of upside.

You know you're probably right about Gibson. When he was called a coffee fetcher ( long time ago ? ),I made a positive post about him , the reaction wasn't pretty. He is a guy that maybe isn't the smartest or has the best x's and O's, but kids will consistently run thru a wall of fire for him. Most guys and gals that have played sports know what I mean.

When/if he becomes a hot candidate for a head coaching position, I'll feel sad.

1. I'm about his age and it will mean I'm getting old.
2. I'm from the same county and it will mean someone from Van is more successful than someone from Scott.

Stop the Madness!!!!!!

I've been thinking that same thing. Gibson is one of the few people that have had an impact the past couple of years. The defense 3 years ago was horrid. Since he has taken over, the defense may not be the same mid-90's style defense that WVU had, but it's still very much improved. I think Gibson would be, and SHOULD be, a candidate if/when the job was to come open.

However, I feel (and FEAR) that he will be a candidate for some of these other jobs, like a Memphis or Toledo. I would hate losing him as a DC.

I could not believe it the day we hired Gibby. He was a freaking laughing stock by the annointed in the Blue Lot and we all know that they know everything - just ask Vernon.

He has done a good job and all credit goes to him.

Tony has done very well. All credit to him.

Hopefully he stays, but he should get some looks elsewhere in the next year or two.

Still, Gibson has a lot of upside.

During our game against ISU (or maybe Kansas) they said we might have the best defense in the B12. It's made yearly improvements. I call that good. You're not going to regularly shut down Baylor, TCU, OK State, and Oklahoma - you're just not. They're going to get their points. We lost our best defensive player this year too.

I could definitely see Gibson getting HC looks from lower level schools. He has a reputation as a tough recruiter, now he's showing that he's a good coordinator.
