Watched #1 Gonzaga today against # 6 Kansas. This big destroyed Kansas inside with 25 on 11-15 FGs:

Not an athletic dude, but very very fundamentally sound, has basic but good low post moves and he repeatedly and easily scored on his KU defender. KU looked undersized against him, strangely. I think Sanogo would have been better against him than the guy KU had on him.

Having good fundamentals makes a big difference in this sport. Gonzaga's recruiting philosophy seems to emphasize guys with skills and fundamentals over guys who are athletic and it seems to be working for them.

They embarrassed Kansas today and looked like the #1 team.

That's a USF team that lost its first game decisively to UMASS-Lowell, however, they went 22-12 last year with a pair of tough 4 point losses to Gonzaga, so they are a good team.

After the game, Tony Bennett called his team out as soft, using less blunt language, as he really is not a blunt kind of guy and you have to read between the lines on his statements to media.

Good win by #1 Gonzaga over #11 WVU, 87-82 Suggs came back in the game and seemed to be fine playing on his left ankle and had a key blocked shot late in the game.

3 other top 25 games cancelled today due to Covid: the Gonzaga-Baylor #1 vs. 2 showdown, #5 Illinois vs. UT-Martin and #23 Ohio State vs. Alabama A&M.

All it takes is one negative test, even with a support staff member, as we learned with UConn WBB.

ESPN is reporting that 2 members of the Gonzaga travelling party tested negative, a student athlete and a non student:

I think schools need to rethink who is absolutely necessary to travel to these games and cut down on their travelling parties. NCAA should issue guidelines on how much staff each school should have. There should not be any non-essential personnel.

I watched #1 Gonzaga completely steamroll and shred Virginia's vaunted defense 98-75 in a game that was not nearly as close as the final score suggested.

Corey Kispert drained 9 3s and is looking very much like someone who will play a long time in the NBA as a wing player, and there was another huge 29 point game for Drew Timme, Gonzaga's center who has some of the best fundmental post moves which are executed very unathletically, but effectively. I am wondering if NBA teams will see him as a poor man's Frank Kaminsky, who was recently cut by the Sacramento Kings but then picked up by the Suns. I am interested to see how guys like this pan out in the NBA, which has become a very athletic league.

Kispert, Timme and Jaylen Suggs gives Gonzaga 3 main man type players capable of going for 30 in any game. This team is going to be very, very hard to beat and is probably a major favorite for the NCAA title at this point in time. They are overdue to win one and I think this could be the year.
