Otega, a Blair Academy alum, what has he said to guys about Kentucky?

Absolutely. He wants Ron and Ron to come there. He thinks it would be a great opportunity. He speaks highly of Coach Pope and the Kentucky family. Everything that they said was happening.
he’s been a part of it, and he loves it down there. He also talked about winning a championship. Trying to provide a championship for Kentucky and their friends and for coaching staff. He wants Ron Ron to come there after he leaves and, you know, continue on.

I don’t think there is much chance that Pope will go with a freshman starting PG next season. I believe it’s either going to be Lowe or a proven top transfer portal guy. Although I could see UK converting Johnson into a scoring PG for next season. I think he has the skills (the mindset I wouldn’t know about) and it certainly wouldn’t be the first time a scoring guard was successfully used as a lead guard. But in general I believe that a good situation for UK annually would be to have a starting PG and a PG in waiting (playing 12-16 min/gm) who is ready to take over that 2nd year for a team with title aspirations. Rippey looks like a good option for this.

So, I’m wondering whether Rippey’s decision hinges on being promised the starting PG spot next season? I don’t think the comment by his father that what they were looking for in choosing a school was “[j]ust making sure he can come in and have the ball right away” necessarily means that he expects to be gifted the starting PG spot as a freshman. But if so, I wouldn’t expect him at UK because I don’t expect that Pope would make that promise. Providing a stage for OAD players to showcase for the draft is no longer the #1 goal of the program. I believe that was again evidenced by how many times Rippey’s father mentioned in the article that winning a championship was Pope’s and everybody else emphasis. You think that would have been the emphasis if he visited Arkansas (where Calipari would both promise and deliver) or Kansas (where Self would just say/insinuate whatever was necessary)?
