No problem. Love stuff like that.Once again the Paddock comes through. Thanks. I didn't know that. Interesting.

And like most great sci fi it deals with existence and our place here in the universe. For me it's 2001, large gap, Blade Runner.2001 is the greatest in the genre, without question. Fantastic story, striking visual effects and cinematography, genius utilization of music, stupid people hate it / can't understand it.
It has all of the ingredients of a classic.
Yes. And very underrated. Written by Alex Garland and directed by Danny Boyle. Garland made his directorial debut this year with Ex Machina (Can't pimp this one enough). Sunshine is again the kind of scifi I gravitate too. I appreciate visuals, but for me I need that existential element.2001 is my goat.
Anyone see that movie Sunshine? Thought was really underrated.
I like 28 days later, but would that be considered scifi? I consider it more of a horror/post apocalyptic film. Her is another one of my favorite recent scifi films. I think it's one of the best scripts/stories of the last 30 years. Not really into sci-fi, most of the ones I watch that I like, I don't like it enough to watch it again, so that wouldn't be good enough to quality for any top anything list for me. And hard to remember many off the top of my head that I thoroughly enjoyed, but...
The Martian
Interstellar
28 Days Later
Inception
The Fountain
Her
Ex Machina
I wasn't sure about 28 Days Later. I consulted IMDB and they have it listed as scifi. But after clicking on the sci-fi genre, there are some mighty questionable selections for scifi.I like 28 days later, but would that be considered scifi? That's my favorite horror flick of all time. When they strap them down and start testing, well it just doesn't get any better than that. Also, for as amazing of a movie as it is, The Thing isn't Sci-Fi as it's main genre. Although, definitely has sci-fi elements to it, it's really a horror movie, and a top5 one at that. Not to mention The Thing has, in my opinion, some of the best one-sheets and fan posters of all time.

http://m.mentalfloss.com/article.php?id=68365It's my #1 horror movie as well, It's JC's #1 movie for me, and it's a top10 movie in general for me.
Just amazing. Acting, visuals, suspense, like 4 layers of horror, ending, ambiguity.. superb.
Forgot all about Fritz Lang's "Metropolis". The film certainly ranks up among the top 10.1) Metropolis
2) Bladerunner
3) 2001
In no particular order
Star Wars movies
Star Trek movies
Terminator Movies
Matrix trilogy
Avatar
Predator movies, including AvP 1&2
Riddick movies
Pandorum
Interstellar
Pacific Rim
Blade Runner
I'm still pissed they never bothered to make a sequel to The Thing. They just left us hanging all these years.
Disregard anything Z post. You are now dumber for having read it.Lol...so I'm not allowed the opinion that I believe it to be not as good as any other film on my list??
It is only ranked #136 on the IMDB top 250, below many of the films ahead of it on my list, so I think that there are many more people out there who share my opinion of it than do yours. Just saying.
For the record, I love 'Blade Runner', but I don't love it more than those other films on my list.
Also, '2001: A Space Odyssey' isn't even i my top 25 Sci-Fi. I generally love Kubricks films, but '2001' is not one of them for me.
Actually a good movie for its time. Honey West, I mean, Anne Francis was hot.
I'm still pissed they never bothered to make a sequel to The Thing. They just left us hanging all these years.
Dr. Strangelove scifi?2001
Back to the Future
Dr. Strangelove
Empire Strikes Back
The Road Warrior
Close Encounters
The most recent Godzilla movie
Hunt for Red October (in the sense that the propulsion system conceived for Red October was not based on scientific fact. 3, 2, 1).
Alien
Looper
Dr. Strangelove scifi?
Well, let's see now . . . cobalt thorium G?
Flesh Gordon
I don't know man. I can't classify it as a sci fi flick.
I love the science in Interstellar and it has some great camera work and visual effects, but I hated the script. I thought the first act was just awful. Maybe my expectations were too high. I don't know.Much more of a fan of sci-fi books than movies - but there were a few I liked
in no order
Interstellar
2001
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1979)
Alien
Contact was pretty good
Of course most of the Star Wars movies -
The Black Hole - have a soft spot for this one
Tron (original AND remake)
Fahrenheit 451 was a great book but the movie didn't really carry as well
Disappointed that there's never been a serious attempt to create Asmov's "Foundation" Series into a movie --- or series of movies as it would probably have to be 4-5 hours just for book 1
I KNOW I'm forgetting a few
Lots of great themes and subtext. You can watch that movie from a lot of different perspectives. Great writing.Perplexing scene.. Spoiler.. She starts out in robot gear.. Puts clothes on.. And then has a minute long scene of her undressing, like a human. And you can tell it has an effect on Alex who's watching... But really, it shouldn't matter. She is, in fact, just a robot.
Lots of great themes here.
