You’re pretty much spot on Mac. The Paulus’s and the O’Connell’s get spoken poorly of on here just like the OAD’s. The criticism is just louder sometimes with the OAD’s because they are more integral parts of the team than an O’Connell.

Gilljet I think you summed it up very well. In addition I would submit social media hypes the OAD's so much, we're disappointed when they fail to live up to expectations. Its not that there's anything personal against the player(s), its simply frustration amongst passionate Duke fans.... I know because I have been very guilty, and probably will be again.

However going back to your original point I agree other NON OADs have been victims of heavy criticism. Matt Jones comes to mind as do Zoobs, and Marshall Plumlee until they came along their senior years. So in essence I dont think the OADs have any exclusivity on criticism....OFC

Watching the Duke Baylor Elite Eight game from 2010. We are such a smart veteran team. I wonder if we will ever see that again. And we beat a really good Baylor team. And Zoubek is a BEAST. The way he was playing at the end I'd put him against any Duke center, except Laettner. He was just a rebounding/defensive machine. I think Brand would have a tough time getting over him. I love that 2010 team. We were so patient and smart. Plus the Plumlees and Dawkins off the bench.

There’s a level of consistency K has achieved that even Cal hasn’t touched. I know you want to say K isn’t perfect. And he isn’t. I’m not sure anyone here has ever argued that point. But the way he has created his teams, the product he has put on the floor, and the way he has coached his teams is quite frankly better than Cal. It’s not like Cal is some piss poor coach who thinks his team is playing baseball. But K does what he does better than Cal. That’s not an exaggeration.
You make a good point. I take away from it that it is hard for anyone to win with OAD's. K has to be the undisputed best coach right now with 5 rings but he had a team of a lifetime that couldn't make FF. It is extremely hard with freshmen dominated teams to win a title

Teams with mostly freshman make it more difficult, but it’s going to be hard to win a 68 team single elimination tournament no matter how talented the team is. The days of one team dominating like UCLA in the 60s and 70s are gone. Back then the tournament was 16-32 teams and they played on their home court sometimes (IIRC).

It's extremely hard to in a title with upperclassmen too. Just look at 2002. There have been plenty of teams with more talent than this year's Duke squad PLUS upperclassmen leadership that didn't win the tournament. Not just at Duke.

I agree and I wasn't pointing to only Duke. Cal gets grief bc he didn't win it all with Cousins and Wall, The KAT group. Cal didn't have the NBA guys that they are now. In a few years people will say, how did Zion not win it all. He will be a grown *** man and dominating by then. not to say he isn't now
