I believe 9 teams last year, as well as 2014-15, ended in the final AP poll that were not in the preseason top 25. So, movement happens.

I also think end of the season polls tell you more about your schedule. For example, UL fans thought the Auburn game was a sign of strength while the Houston game instilled fear for the season. In retrospect, losing to Houston at home was probably more impressive.
