Did Salem move to D3 or D5 and I didn't hear about it? If not how the heck are they not on everyone's preseason list?

We all know that Salem will be good. I do not think at this time you can put them as favorite but you never know if they improve and they seem to always have consistency because of participation and tradition. They lost a lot, three players to VT. The interior defense will be good and they have talent coming up but not the experience at the varsity level. The season will be determined by how well these players develop at the varsity level and how they play with some very good returning players. Also, their schedule will be tough , leading off with state and sometimes national power Martinsburg of West VA and then 6a Franklin County and 5a William Fleming. Also they are losing some coaching staff.

As far as the state goes there are some great teams in Varina and Churchland along with some traditional powers looking to make noise.

I don't have any inside information, but any list of contenders has to look back on recent success. I'll list a couple or more teams from each Region that have been contenders in the last 5 years or so.

Region A is wide open with LT moving to C3.

Churchland
King's Fork
---------------
Hampton (they have so much potential, will they be able to take the mantle soon?)

Region B is always the most competitive. Adding Varina to the mix should only make it tougher.

Eastern View
Patrick Henry Ash
Varina
Dinwiddie
Monacan
-------------------
King George (They stepped up last year, will they maintain or settle back to the middle?)

Region C has been Tuscarora's since they moved in, with Broad Run nipping at their heels.

Broad Run
Tuscarora
-----------------
Liberty Beal (For Liberty and Sherando will they compete with BR & Tusky?)
Sherando

With Louisa moving over it should help make Region D more competitive.

Louisa
GW Danville
Pulaski
Salem

Salem has plenty of “rebuild” years that they still win or play for a state championship. They should always be in the mix.

A lot of people are forgetting Broad Run... they are loaded this year and I think they will dethrone Tuscarora in region C.

Pulaski County had a lot of talented and experienced football players graduate the last 2 years.....most importantly the Gallimore brothers (Austin & Ethan / both will be playing for Coach Cleive Adams at Ferrum ...along with 2 other 2021 Cougar graduates, Zeke Surber and Corvin Carter) almost entire offensive and defensive lines, all but maybe 1 linebacker, all-region kicker/punter (Simpson), quarterback (Dalton). The Big Bright Spot is that Coach Dixon is back for his 2nd season. It's going to be a fun season and we can't wait, which I'm sure is the same for all reading this.

Who are they losing off the staff?
