Tough game

I came away from this one more impressed by Iowa than anything. Hopefully we learn something from it and move on.

We just did not play very well. I thought Iowa had a good plan on both ends of the court. Offensively they made us pay for doubling with crisp passing and then they made open shots. While not a starter, #20 is a known shooter and yet we seemed to lose him on several occasions. I thought we needed to play straight up man to man defense rather than doubling as much as we did, particularly when it became apparent that Iowa was able to find the open man. I thought it also took us out of position for rebounds which resulted in second and third chances.

On the defensive end, Iowa's zone defense and token pressure were both effective. I think they were playing mostly a 3-2 zone. At times, it may have been a 2-3 but we never seemed to be able to attack the weak spots of the zone effectively. When we did, I thought it should have been Paul in the middle of the zone trying to create something around the foul line instead of someone like Mag. We seemed to be just passing around the perimeter without a lot of intent. I continue to think we need to do more to get Cam open looks versus expecting him to create off the dribble.

This tape will be watched closely by our upcoming opponents. I suspect we will see more zone defense. We need to make adjustments and counter.

Paul missed a wide open one first half and Derek missed 2 wide open ones in last 4-6 minutes of second half. They overplayed and doubled Cam and someone else needed to step up , Derek or Paul and neither did.

3rd game in 5.5 days. They have to be tired.
That being said missing so many under the basket Paul scoring 5? Points was not helpful at all

Paul was a much bigger problem than Cliff. Cliff was 1 point and 1 rebound away from a double double. Mag didn’t help at all either.

goofy lol because he looked goofy. I think Pike left the kid open because he was not good all year. You can't guard everyone...kid made RU pay big time.

The start was obviously terrible but we crawled it back to 4 with just under 4 minutes left in first half. Finish strong and likely a different second half. Instead we give up an 8-0 run to finish the half. Game

At that time had foul shots where we could have scored 4 points and only got 1.
