“If Ja’Mari competes it will only be in a relay. And that is a maybe,’’ Cahokia coach Leroy Millsap said on Tuesday. “But the way I have it figured out, with Ja’Mari we could score 113 points at the state meet. You take away 40 that he would get and we still have 73. The second place team usually scores in the 50’s. All we have to do is have the kids do what they’ve been doing all year and we’ll be fine. I don’t care if we win by one point, as long as we win it..’’

Edwardsville will have its have full with Minooka, which did beat depleted Cahokia and E-ville squads at the Armstrong Relays earlier this year.

Watch for ESL to also place high.

Damn shame about Ward - was hoping he'd get a warm day to uncork two monster jumps and maybe win the 100 and 200 opens.

But it's the right move to sit him down - no need to risk health for a high school meet.

Millsap five in a row make it hard to question his point count but I don't see 73 points. That's probably why he is a great track coach and I am not LOL.

E-ville will get strong performances from Espenesa (sp) in the Discuss 10 pts and Anderson in the 110's 10 pts. After that it gets pretty rough.

ESL should own the 4 three relays for 30pts and should nickel and Dime the 100, 200, 400 and 300 hurdles. They also have a long jumper that can get a few points on a good day.

In the end I really hate that Ward can't perform as watching him work was truly amazing. Similar to Montgomery (won the SEC 400 as a Freshman) performance last year. We do have Eiker in 3A in the 100 and 200 that should break a record so there will be some excitement. Ward would have made it one of the best meets ever.

Cahokia still has plenty of relay depth and the gap for them in 2A was big enough that they should still win it. Ward won't jump but he may run. I wouldn't bother as the kid has a huge future ahead of him.

3A is East St Louis' to win. They are the heavy favorite in the 400 800 and 1600 relays. 3200 relay should be dynamite with Sandburg and Prospect about to dual it out.

3A sprints with Rodgers, Lockhart and Eiker should be amazing and record breaking. Eiker should win 100/200.

shot will be great with kid from Lockport and Sikon from Carbondale. Sikon could break all time state meet Mark.

Should be fun next weekend.

Without Ward on the relays Cahokia is very average. The high marks for the year all include Ward at 100%. As we know, Milsap and the crew will bring it but, this will be the first year that he don't have a favorite to win any event. 4x400 is their best shot. If he is able to pull this off, he should be considered the all time greatest coach in my opinion.

ESL is strong but the lack of field events can be a factor. Minooka put some stuff down yesterday.

Eiker is in a class of his own after that, There are about 12 kids that will compete for 2-9.

Thursday Sectionals were on fire.

The kid from Lockport is John Meyer who happens to be a sophomore this year. With a PR of 63.00 in Shot and a PR of 179.20 in Discus he will be very competitive in both events.

After looking at the sectional results, the team titles will be interesting.

The 100m in 3A will be smoking.

“There are handful of teams who will be walking in here feeling they have a chance to win it. We’re one of those teams,” Cahokia coach Leroy Millsap said earlier this week. “Hillcrest, Chicago Morgan Park, Kaneland, (Springfield) Lanphier, Marion, they’ve all got a shot. It just depends on who has the best meet.”

Cahokia moves into finals in eight events, Hillcrest, Kaneland and Morgan Park have five,
Lanphier has six and Marion has three.

Notably, Cahokia does not offer Pole Vault, putting them at an automatic disadvantage.

You left out Tolono Unity, last year's 1A state champion and this years smallest 2A participant with an enrollment of 499. They move into the finals in eight events also.

Lockhart may not run the 100 or at all today. He hurt himself earlier and didn't run the 200. The 100 times are all wind aided as they all ran with a 20-25mph tail wind. Still fast though.

Foget all about Geneso - they are two points off Cahokia with 49. The 4x400 will be a dandy to decide the title (if I projected correctly in my head).

A No-Height for Cahokia in the High Jump hurt - the Geneso kid who got third was a few inches below was McRoberts has jumped. I hope he recovers quickly as I assume he was injured. Those seven points and 10 in the Pole Vault may determine it all.

Cahokia locks it up with 61 points by winning the 4x400 - 37 points in relays. Everyone scored but for one, who I assume was injured after schoring in the triple. East St. Louis I believe secured their title even before the 4x400 - Edwardsville will take 2nd.

ESL wins the 4x400 and the 3A title - Eville takes second. Belleville East ties three-way for 9th. A total of 129 points by the SW Conference. I'm not doing the tally for other conferences, but this was a good showing for Metro East athletes.

We don't forget...9/9/16 is circled on the calendar...congrats to Cahokia and Geneseo.

Proud of the Tolono Unity Rockets who scored 40.5 points placing 4th in 2A. As a father I am proud of my son who medaled in 4 events as a sophomore. Not bad for our first year up in 2A.

his year.

How precise. Let's work off of 73. With the high jump let's say they score 69 today. Fractions of seconds or an inch in McRoberts' case - he lost a place/point by a quarter inch.

And second place had 50-some points.

He was spot on.

One thing I must say though, I didn't agree with the decision to go with a rolling clock. I don't think the radar warranted it. This hurt a team like Tolono Unity. Steven Migut ran 8 races in just over 24 hours, Andrew Warnes 6, Jayden Kaiser 6. It hampered a small school. They were only 3.5 points from a 3rd place trophy and it would have been interesting to see if they could have done it under the normal schedule on Saturday.

Denmig you are so right. The IHSA bungled this from the start. Moving the field events indoors in Friday was an out and out joke. The rolling schedule yesterday was just stupid. This is how you get kids hurt.

Then they were yelling at kids who weren't hurrying after their race to get their medals.

The running events ended and the 3A high jump and pole vault we're still going - about an hour after the meet ended.

New leadership is needed next year for this meet. It's such a great experience down there. It's just a shame that people who have no clue how to run this meet are allowed to make terrible decisions that effect the kids.
