I agree. Why not open the day after the championship
On the surface anyway, it would seem to put the teams still in the Tournament at a disadvantage, right? Which I really don't like since we're still in (Yes!) and the most impactful players in regard to winning next season (and every season in the current regime) are in the portal.

Do we have a GM? Or know what our NIL budget is? I hear how Arkansas, IU, and BYU have a huge budget. Where do we rank?

Last year the portal opened the night the brackets were announced.

Looking forward to following the roster assembly in the weeks to come!
I'm not gonna lie, watching Pope and his staff work their magic last year around this time was a thing of beauty.

I too am looking forward to watching them work....

Right after winning a championship.

What more could OO want, he is currently at his dream scenario. Will get paid very well, is a fan favorite, and has developed really well in the national spotlight.
Next year he could be the star of the Clark's Pump and Shop ad, even

Being a bit sarcastic about that part but I really hope he stays, he's been this season's MVP

I wonder this as well.
I thought Fox was supposed to be involved with NIL. If not, UK needs to hire someone great that can raise funds and increase this portion of the program. If Barnhart is truly an issue with this, then take it out of his hands and place it in the hands of a specialist.

I think opening the portal during the tournament like this is intentional to attempt to get more parity in the game. They do they same thing with the college football playoffs and you had players entering the portal the week their team was going to play in the playoffs. It's a stupid attempt to get parity next year by affecting some of the most important games this year.

The moral of the story is if there is a way for something to get screwed up, you can count on the NCAA to find it.

Can someone PLEASE find a way to just put portal posts in a single thread or something similar (they should be on the recruiting board anyway)? Do we really want the entire board filled up with posts about individual players entering the portal when our current team and current players are alive and fighting in the tournament?

I vote we wait for another week to 10 days before we get too invested in the portal. After this next weekend, 95% of the portal players are likely to be available. Then, we can look at the possibilities and get our “Draft Boards” out. Until we know who are possibilities, we shouldn’t get too invested into any one player.

Pope is likely to get 1-2 projects and 4-5 starter level players. As much as some of the guys we have already discussed may be in the mix, there may be better alternatives unannounced just yet.

Then again, Pope may choose the lower profile “fit” guys rather than the big talent/big money guys. The Money Ball approach so to speak

Well I, for one, don't want the portal discussion to be put in a single thread. What makes this message board the best is the volume of varied basketball related posts and the number of posters with legitimate basketball takes. We can handle posts about everything basketball related from the game yesterday, our current players and guys who have entered the portal. It’s all ok. As I’m sure has been said before, just skip over those posts about portal players. Your personal preference not to see those is fine, but irrelevant and immaterial to others who do enjoy reading about potential player options (even if they don’t become a UK player). Some of the players entering the portal are such a big deal and maybe particularly a fit for what UK needs next season that many may think they deserve their own thread to discuss their pros and cons. Besides, what harm is this doing to you and why should your preferences dictate? Just seems a little weird to me. Start more posts about, for example, how great Carr’s under the radar play was yesterday, etc. We can all participate in those discussions as well without any sweat.

How do you guys think pope works the portal this wk along with game preparation? Will we see anyone actually commit here this wk or is this something we have to wait until the season is over to hear of commitments?

Cast a wide net, and reaches out to a lot of guys, but they probably already know who they really want

From what I understand, the revenue sharing aspect is going to be around $7.5 million. UK already has around $1.5 million from Club Blue, and an additional $4+ million from boosters.

If all of this is true, Kentucky should have around $12-13 million in its arsenal.

He is good that you overlook that. Trilly said it’s Kentucky, Louisville, ND, or West Virginia here
I think some people look at “White guard/wing who can shoot a three” and automatically think, he fits Ky. Even if we contact them, we are only gaging their interest for our fit. By the way, not sure if the White part is a coincidence or we have been stereotyped or those just happen to be the options this year.

We are not going to sign a bunch of these guys. 1 - project/possibly Green or Freeman, if they are around 6’7”-6’8” and 1 - wing starter preferably around 6’7”-6’8”. We need PF’s, C and PG, in my opinion.

Mckneely can do a lot more than just shoot 3s

This is just a guess but I bet Kentucky ends up with one of Josh dix or mckneely
How are we feeling about Braden Smith? There was a ton of buzz.

Then after it came out we contacted the UNLV point guard, it makes you think maybe that's not happening.

He would be one of the best portal gets EVER.
