Someone was mentioning that staying in the draft until late and then having desperate teams bid for you is a good financial decision.
Blakes to Stanford. That's 4 transfers from Duke to other ACC schools.
I'm going to miss that kid's defense. His offense was a bit unpredictable at times, however, we all knew defensively he was a bulldog.

Blakes is a good student so Stanford seems like a good fit for him. I don't know enough about them to know if he will start, but he will likely play, my guess is off the bench. You never want to lose guys, but Sion is a big upgrade, so even if he stayed I think Sion would have been recruited here. It sounds like this was his plan as of last year.

As for me I’ll miss Blakes he just seemed like a good kid . That said out of the transfers . Him and Roach are always good in my book they graduated from Duke .

As I recall, Blakes was signed very late in the recruiting season and was not high up on our recruiting board However, we were not deep at the guard position, and he had the stones to give Duke a try. Predictably, it did not turn out for him. His effort and defense cannot be faulted, but we needed to fill his spot with a more offensibly talented player, which (I hope) is what we did. Wish him the very best. Stanford seems like a very good fit. OFC

I don’t fault the athletes who are not going to play in the nba to max out their collegiate earnings. The NCAA, universities, tv stations, all make a lot of money off these young men. If boosters and others have the money and want to pay the kids to play for their favorite team then they can have at it. I for one don’t have the money to give to the young men to play for Duke otherwise I would be haha.

Double NIL for a final four. Triple for a natty. Give half back if you miss the tourney.
What about if you get injured or if the coach benches you for missing practices ? Do you get fined or NIL held back for not being able to play ? Pros have it done to them . Will the NCAA now start fining for techs? What about players arguing with refs ? What about if you miss practice and don’t play but you got a 2 million nil deal due to your play on the court ? Crazy questions I know but I can’t be the only person thinking the NCAA won’t find a way to financially penalize players.

Hey . Fans want border line NBA picks to stay in college. Now they will . Just to the highest bidder . I’m not mad at the kid . If you’re not a first round pick and a two way contract ( especially if you never see the NBA floor ) is only 560,000 yet a college team is willing to pay you 2 million for a year . Take it .

That's kind of what I was talking about when I posted the article about the Illinois player transferring to Kansas State Shey. Why would I be mad at the kid? Of course they should take the $$. I don't blame Roach one bit. Plus, he gave Duke four years.

But that wasn't my point. I'm talking about the madness that College basketball is becoming.

I agree with you Mac . I remember the days when players hit the floor and wanted to out show the top NBA picks. The upper classmen who put the three to four years into a program . That’s what people forget made March so great . The heart of the under dog . Coming in and beating top seeds . Players you never heard of showing out . Your team laying it all on the line like when Scheyer got that pass and threw it behind him so the clock would run out against Baylor in 2010. The Grayson Allen’s that came out of no where against Wisconsin and put the fire back into his team !

Reviving this thread as it seems names are coming out for the portal. Not really interested in anyone other than us having to find a big. I've seen that big dude Diop from Arizona State as a possibility depending if we get a big from Europe

Question: How much did Duke spend on the transfer portal last year and any idea how much Duke is willing to spend this coming year ? Thanks
I’m not sure but they are estimating most rosters in college ball will cost between 12-15 million and big men are going from 1.5-2.2 million . I know I read an article where Boozer received 2 million from Duke . There are a lot of bigs in the portal already even the ghundo guy from VA.

I'm thinking Flory will be looking for way more than 2 mil. He's good but I'd rather give it to one of the other bigs available and have extra to get a legit shooter. Our roster next year doesn't look like we'll have alot of 3 point threat.

Edit- just saw that Flory is supposedly asking for around 5 mil which if true is crazy. The weak center that Louisville had Sananda Fru is allegedly asking for 3 mil

Flory did the same thing last year just to get paid more . Like most that enter and return to the same school. I don’t think Dad or was in the top eight of schools that forked out NIL money . College basketball off seasons are like free agency now .

I’d take Flory without hesitation. He would eat with Williams more of a “shooting” big. I think he would be a perfect fit but not for 5 mil. I hope that rumor is false because that’s far more than we gave Boozer.

I haven't looked into it much but seeing something with the executive order Trump signed today that players have a 5th year of eligibility. Anyone know more about that? Thinking if Maliq qualifies.
