Listed at 210 lbs coming out of high school in Philadelphia. Ran for 108 yards against Michigan State.
Got his lunch handed to him against Iowa. Couldn’t get past the LOS. Another DBC back. Typical Barthel offer. Low ranked kid from the north east. Barthel likes to recruit himself.

The issue with our backs and Fame is reading the blocking scheme and finding the tempo to run. Watching Ives and Nelson on same plays that EJ ran for success was so frustrating. You’d see where they were on the field vs where EJ was when the line was still developing and you’d know the play was busted. Barthel would see it too cause he’d pull them the next play. But Some guys just don’t know how to scout that in HS or on film. It’s yet to really be seen that Barthel knows how to scout Rbs. Nelson and Ives don’t have rhythm and can’t read. That doesn’t show up on PFF BS

One of my favorite quotes from a RB is Le'veon Bell, “I never ran full speed”. Speed is unimportant to a RB a lot of the time. This isn’t High School. You aren’t going to just outrun guys. Gotta have flow. Le’veon had some of the best flow I’ve ever seen.

We already have Fames on the roster. Stop pretending the guy we are looking after is the best thing there is. EJ either just can’t recruit or is lazy. But dont take my word for it. Look at the numbers

I didn’t promote Ijeboi. I merely posted two facts about the guy. I don’t think we need a transfer RB unless it’s a big bopper.

I'm tired of the Philadelphia and northeast connection with Rhule. There's a reason why there's not been many elite programs around that area in football. The only saving grace for this guy is I do think Minnesota with Fleck has recruited good RBs.

A first team All American RB that was committed to Neb for nearly 4 months is playing tonight. Matt should have tried a little harder to keep him.
I would love to say that I can envision a backfield with Lacy and EJ. But I can't. That backfield would have resulted in 1 of the 2 hitting the portal before this year.

Sure go ahead with your zero sum, loser thinking which is why Nebraska has been in the mess it has for the last decade. But if we are to get out of this mess, we do need to be looking at studs at every position, and that goes doubly so for the RB position.

I never claimed that Nelson and Mozee didn't do relatively well in the bowl game, but that's a long shot from relying on them as starters for a whole season, especially when they couldn't even be trusted to give EJ a breather in consequential games. We need an actual starter quality RB in the portal.
Loser thinking is walking around thinking you're better than everyone else when you clearly are not. Bidding top dollar on everything will get you broke in a hurry. Live in reality my friend!

We can agree on this dingle

its just sad watching Miami and Ole Miss seeing we could have had both backs.

Brown just proved he aint DBC

Penn State carried two good backs. It can be done. Good backs know they need help. They need a breather
Penn State had two great backs with a little different style and they both got their touches. They had a good O line in front of them and were smart to stick it out. I know EJ got the award but IF I were an NFL GM I would draft either of those guys before EJ. JMO.

Emmett just led the B1G in rushing and was number 4 overall in the country?
And we still had a below average rushing attack as a team... I mean it's asinine to think that the same players we had on the RB chart this year who we couldn't trust to give EJ a breather are the same players who are magically going to replace his production next season? And that's not even good enough for middle of the pack rushing attack unless Colandera will rush for 1,000 yards.

Coach Barthel going to win the FAFO Coach of the year in 2026.

-2023 winner Satterfield (at OC)
-2024 winner Coach Foley
- 2025 winner Uncle Donnie
This cracked me up. FAFO Award is great

If Aurich or Geep compete for this award next year, that will be just about the end of this list for Matt (I don’t think they will. I am optimistic about both coaches.)

Barthel is proof we need a couple of star recruiters on the staff. He could hang his hat on EJ if there were 2 to 3 more studs coming up. Instead, the recruiting has been a joke at running back.

Seeing Lacey start in the final 4 was painful

It's the same as Pelini and his Ohio connections. Except I think the Phily/NE recruits for Rhule are doing better. Either way, it's just coming in for the leftovers....

There were many who were saying the same thing at the prospect of EJ being the guy.

I can’t imagine our line will be worse with some of the guys we are bringing in and a new coach who isn’t riding his nephew’s coat tails. RB is down my list of biggest concerns this offseason. Nelson ran for over 100 yds in his first opportunity?

When Rhule got here he talked about wanting a bruising running game so opponents were worn down by the 4th quarter. As it turns out, the exact opposite happens. Emmet was a really good back, no doubt, but NU needs a large bruising back for more than situational playing time and I'm not sure Ives is the answer. Unfortunately, Barthel does not seem to be a top recruiter/developer, and doesn't seem to have much interest in acquiring portal transfers. Until Emmet emerged after threatening to transfer, Barthel seemed to tend toward RB by committee rather than going with a featured back. That is probably what will happen next season.

We don't think what happened with Emmett development?

It’s wild to me - I’ve heard both Rhule and Benning say that the running back room is good enough as is. No need to hit the portal.

I see a very pedestrian room that is clearing lacking a stud

I think Benning mY have some inside knowledge that they likely aren't pursuing another portal RB. That could be why he's saying that. I actually like Nelson AND Mozee and I STILL think we need another back.

I won’t pay Benning any attention until his son is no longer on the team. Doesn’t seem to ever have any concerns about the program. To affraid to get his son in the dog house.

And to finish 11th in conference in rushing, 11th in YPC and 10th in YPG and have the leading rusher in conference and that players not coming back, that’s not concerning???? That means the rest of the team sucked Matt. Like a lot. Wow

he didn’t think that EJ would have benefited from help last year? Michigan and Iowa Stand out the most. EJ was winded and we kept trying to feed him cause we had no one else or we’d hand off to our down by first contact backs. Almost all our great backs had a #2 that was at least solid.

And save me the “I trust Rhule” crap. I don’t. I don’t trust Rhule as far as I can throw him. He’s the dumbest HC we’ve ever had. Football wise and just intelligent wise. The man is just dumb AF. He’s lucky to be where he is. That’s all. Luck and a slick mouth

All their money is on very low rated recruited backs. Not smart. but FAFO Matt. Hey did we ever think maybe think he wants to be fired?
Dumbest HC we ever had??? Lol, you must've been sleep the 5 years before Rhule came to town 😆

Parker was suspended for the year for Peds and then hit the road.

Not sure if true or not but that day that Rhule went into the weight room checking out the injured players I kinda thought he look jacked as hell from the waist up. Especially for. a true freshman RB. Again I have no clue if it's true or not but it would make sense

I guess we're just talking in circles now, but yeah I strongly disagree.

mark my words.. next year when it's 4th and 2 anywhere inside the redzone, this staff is going to have the same problem getting that first down, or punching in a touchdown. Why? they only invested in small running backs who can catch the ball.. (sans Ives, who should be a receiver) we don't have any actual running backs, except maybe that kid out of millard north, not sure if he will be successful at this level or not.

The staff must think it's only an offensive line issue, but to be great, we need both, not just 1 side of the solution.

Nobody developed EJ except EJ, and even with his great season, EJ has never been an elite running back,.

Matt Rhule is not a very good football coach.

Are you speaking of Cade Vander Maas from MN? If so, he’s already hit the portal and landed at Rice. Not sure what his story is, perhaps he realized Nebraska wasn’t a good fit for a variety of reasons. Tough player in HS though.
I’m wondering where the kid from Wahoo fits in. Get him to 225.lbs and see what he can do in short yardage situations.
