Love him hate him whatever it’s nice to have a uk guy calling these games. Ravi too. Both are great for our program. Need more guys in the national ranks now.
Love Travis. His time at Kentucky was must see tv. Man, those games were fun. He was a terrific player here. Anyone that says otherwise, is delusional.Love him hate him whatever it’s nice to have a uk guy calling these games. Ravi too. Both are great for our program. Wow. You’re right. He does seem like Larry. And Larry was awesome. Great post.Ford’s commentating style reminds me a little bit of another former UK guard, Larry Conley. Conley and Hammond were such a great duo — both Kentucky boys!

Agree 100%.I’ve heard a lot of negative things through the years from people who interacted with Ford personally. I had one brief interaction with him years ago and I would just say he came across as a smart aleck.
That being said, I think he does a good job on the games, and obviously he is a Kentucky fan.
Comparing him to someone like Kyle Macy, who seemed to have a bit of a chip on his shoulder about “back in the day,” I think Ford stays on a pretty positive, even keel.
A sharp stick in the ear is better than DykesTravis is awesome so much better than Dykes

I’m not doubting this story at all . But it’s a little confusing. So Joe Hall went into the locker room of a Pitino coached team and got a jersey that had just been worn in a game ?I’ve told this before. I have a game used Travis Ford Jersey. It was when we wore ASICS. After a game Joe Hall went in the locker room and brought my dad and I the jersey by request. We knew Joe pretty well and he would send us jerseys and do things for us. Went fishing a few times.
My dad walked the jersey up to Travis after the game to get signed and he saw it and went absolutely ballistic. He wanted to know where he got it, and my father said Joe gave it to us. He went over to Joe B and cussed him up and down. Of course, after seeing that it was kept and he wasn’t getting it back.
Years later I took it up to him to get signed and he asked where I got it and was being a total prick about it. I just said never mind I’ll hang it without the signature and walked out.
The guy is one of my favorites but he’s a total POS. He’s night and day different than Joe was. We’ve been given many jerseys and every single player signed them and was happy about it. I’ve got two game used Pope Jerseys. He loved seeing them and signed both, talked about them with us and remembered one of them well. Same for Kenny Walker, and many others. Travis is the only one that was just a lunatic about it.
I can’t tell people what we lost in Joe Hall. A man who was an NCAA champ and Kentucky coach that until his dying day would answer his house phone and talk the game with you. Me and my friends used to call him after games in the 90’s. They were all UT fans and couldn’t believe he’d answer like that. I’d say I told you he’d answer! He’d talk to us about the game as long as we wanted. I miss that guy and there won’t be another.

There’s a saying…“you should never meet your hero’s “. I have realized that a lot of “sayings “ turn out to be Bullcrap though. Just depends.@yoshukai been offered a lot for it by some shops around town. I guess Travis and his father were notoriously tight with their jerseys and gear and none have gotten out. I might have the only one in circulation. But Joe B and Bill went in and grabbed it. I don’t think they thought it would be a problem and knew how big of a Travis Ford fan I was. We own a lot of game used memorabilia but the ford jersey is my babe, either that one or the Tony Dell game used icicle jersey. Even he was glad I had it and inscribed all over it. But Travis is the first guy that I remember as a kid, I was Travis in the driveway. I hate how he is personally though. Every interaction he’s awful. Don’t get it.
Might post it when I get home. Neat piece, we wore ASICS at the time, I get the weirdest looks when people see the ASICS.

Send him an email and tell him some of this. That he was your childhood idol. Hall gave you the jersey from a family connection. Give him time to think on it instead of in his mind shoving something he may have like to have kept in his face to sign. Athletes know what signing game used items does to the value. Maybe if he read your story and thought on it maybe he would contact you to meet up when he does a game. That’s how I would approach this. You gotta be prepared though you may get no response or he may demand his jersey back lol.@yoshukai been offered a lot for it by some shops around town.
