Frankly i dont really care what his NBA career or draft position looks like...i want Duke to be successful this year and win a NC. And for me, that means a PG who can score as well as play D and be a floor general - think Jwill, Hurley, Duhon etc.....if we had a 3pt specialist to compliment Tre it would help but we dont...I think PG scoring is an achilles heel for us.

To be honest, any kind of offense, in today's game, will struggle without one or more effective shooters. Part of what has made this offense so efficient is our ability to create turnovers, score in transition and having two transcendent offensive talents in Zion and RJ.

Agreed...i just think PG is an essential scorer in the half court

When you are an average shooter at best and you go cold, confidence gets lost pretty quickly. A lot of our guys are thinking way too much, they just need to let it rip. I don’t think Tre’s mechanics are so bad that he can’t be a good shooter. It’s just going to take a lot of hard work.

I think Tre needs to score more, but I don't think he needs to score a lot. He hasn't been much of a threat lately.

I’ll stop myself from bickering about our half-court offensive play style. But it does nothing to the advantage of Tre offensively. He’s not a scorer but I think he could be more of a threat in a different offense. He has a respectable elbow distance middie and a nice floater touch around the basket. Offense just doesn’t allow him to work with a scheme like that and instead forces him around the perimeter.

Tre, love you man, but get in the gym. After practice. Like K advised everyone in 'Earn Everything'.

Get up at least 300 shots a day. It'll pay off, for you and the team.

The thing about the draft is it's not whether you're ready, it's where you will get drafted. In Tre's case, if he comes back and doesn't significantly improve offensively, he might wind up hurting his status.

He could be doing that. Same with Jack, Javin, AOC etc. sports are fickle at times. Time takes time. And confidence can come and go In the game of basketball.

NBA don’t draft players on defense alone, We are still not seeing the 2nd coming of stones Jones ll. But you know how it goes. He will most likely declare whether we think he is ready or not. But man if he starts hitting 3s everyone here knows exactly what this team would become.

As far as scoring ability, I think it’d be hard for Tre to go any direction but up. Like I said earlier to someone, he’s really a decent mid-range shooter. Obviously can’t attack the rim but he has a good lookin’ floater pull up. There’s just nothing about our offensive style that gives him the green light to play that way. I guarantee if he was put in a pick and roll scheme that he’d remind you of Chris Paul, not in a finishing around the basket kind of way but just... Maestro. He can hit that middie or floater in the lane, dissect defenses and make the right pass. Pure playmaker.

I have a hunch that he may return. Not trying to be selfishly biased but he’ll benefit tremendously from it, even if his scoring skills barely improve - he can probably showcase his true PG skills next year. Carey is a bruiser, good interior target. Gotta think that either O’Connell or Joey Baker emerge as a solid 3pt threat. Throw in a slashing wing like Wendell Moore and we’ll honestly have a really solid team next year. Just a sprinkle of everything.

Last night wasn’t Tre’s best all around game. He played great D, grabbed rebounds and brought fight. We lose by 35 without him BUT seemed sped up running the O and his shooting struggles continue to stick out. It’s a real issue at this point. I absolutely LOVE Tre but how in the world does he go to the NBA????
Can’t shoot.

He’s averaging around 10 shots a game in the past 7, and 6 of those 10 are two point shots. Looking at shot charts, most of those are in or around the lane. He’s just not hitting. He’s getting the looks though.

Love Tre, but I think his defense is mitigated to some degree in the pros due to higher quality athletes. And his shot is really really awful. Hope he comes back and improves his game.

I agree, but can't blame him if he leaves for guaranteed money.

One more top level recruit for next year could be persuasive. He doesn't want to hurt his stock by returning. So having more talent to distribute the ball to might make returning look like a better idea.

Even back in November, when an argument could be made that Tre was one of the best players in the country. He still was never projected anywhere better than around pick #20.

Tre will make for a nice back-up PG in the league, or a starting PG on a bad team. That will be the case whether he leaves this year or next year.
The shot just isn't very good.
His defense is excellent, but that ball-hounding style will only take you so far in the league. You gotta be able to hit 3's.

Tre's numbers this year aren't much different than Tyus's at all. They're averaging the same number of rebounds and assists per game; Tyus averaged about 4 more points. Tyus leaves a bigger imprint in many people's minds because he hit a few huge shots for us near the end of games.

He's also small. He seems to get knocked around a lot. Would love to see him back for one more year, but who knows these days.

The decision to stay or go should come down to where you’re projected to go now vs how much you could improve by returning. Tre us unlikely to ever be a lottery pick, so if he’s projected late first round now, he should go. I still don’t understand why people think anyone would improve more as a soph playing 35 mpg in college than as a pro playing 10-15 mpg all season against pros.

Its interesting to compare to Tyus who was a better scorer....he averages 20 mins a game or so and 5 pts for the Timberwolves. Would Tre get that? Maybe...one more year to get stronger and be a better scorer in college could be better than sitting in the G or D league in North Dakota ( but I'm sure the $$ will override this)

Tre would be perfect with the Spurs. He reminds me of a young Tony Parker. Tony wasn't a shooter.

Parker was one of the best I've ever seen at getting to the hoop, even at a young age. Tre does not seem to have that, certainly not to that degree, but he may get there. Duval was excellent at getting to the basket.

I think it all depends on how we finish the year. If we win the national championship then yeah i think he’s gone. But if not i really think he’ll come back.
