He can work on his shooting and other aspects of the game in college with room and board covered or he can do the same while making a lot of money. Sure he will not be a lottery pick but he will still do good and learn with the best

That is what I feel some aren't empathizing with.

(Most of) These players aren't looking to maximize/scam the NBA into higher earnings for the next 3 years. They see basketball as their career for the next 15. Tre probably already knows he's gonna require a couple years of development on a NBA bench or G League just like his brother

So ultimately where is the superior development? At Duke against Collegiate players or on a professional team eating & sleeping nothing but basketball with adults. On top of that Duke is a difficult University, who knows how much time they are spending on their courses versus basketball development

On top of that, there are time limitations on supervised practice in college. If I were a gifted violin player, I would want to be able to get instruction for as many hours as I could stand as opposed to being limited. That is probably why we see guys like Duval improve their offense when they get to the pros.

I will really miss Tre, I have enjoyed watching him as much as Zion.

Mostly all mocks have moved Tre down to an early 2nd rounder. Something to remember...teams can now draft you in the 2nd round AND still give you a guaranteed contract. See Gary Trent JR.
Plus if you go in the 2nd round and end up making it, there is more contract flexibility for your next contract, essentially you don't have to play 4 full seasons to be eligible for a bigger deal.
I really have never understood the "come back and work on your jumpshot." Especially when if basketball is your job, clearly one would have more time to work on the jumper.
I've always felt like the only time an extra year in college makes sense is when their is maturity concerns, leadership isues, etc...and Tre definitely doesn't fall short in any of those categories.

I'm not counting on him returning, we really need to figure out who is gonna be the starting PG next year. Were already gonna be limited in talent (for Duke standards) but a really good PG can help remedy that.
If Tre for some reason does return than were a top 5 team next year IMO, provided we land Hurt or 1 more rotation guy.

As a UNC fan, I really want Tre to go to the NBA right now. He's a perfect PG for the talent Duke will continue to put around him and his defense is lock down.

I dunno if it's a mistake but nbadraft.net doesn't have Tre in either round.

Did the rule change and now a player that isn't drafted can comeback to college, if they follow the ncaa protocol through the draft process?

If Duke somehow returns Tre and gets Matthew Hurt, Duke then becomes a title contender. One thing to keep in mind for next season is; spacing will be improved, 3 point shooting should improve, we will have a solid foundation of experience, and a defensive/pass first PG (if Tre returns). Also, people are sleeping on how good Wendell Moore is, his overall game is very mature. Throw in a beast (Vernon Carey) in the middle and you have a lot of options. Obviously this years team is more talented, however, next seasons team has the potential to be the more balanced out of the two. Of course, this is contingent if we grab Matthew Hurt and return Tre Jones for another season.

He's now the 28th pick in next year's mock on their site. I've still seen him in a lot of 1st rounds, but I think he's probably second round if not an undrafted free agent at the moment. A lot of things still left to shake out, but getting Tre back would be huge. Still not getting my hopes up though.

There has been a lot of talk about next years class and next years team, but I haven’t seen a lot of mention on Ellis. I don’t know a lot about him. Are we expecting that he won’t be a big contributor?

I've got a funny feeling, he may come back. No proof, facts or inside info, just gut here. I like our incoming class mixed with our experienced guys. You're gonna love big Vernon.

He’s gonna hurt his foot....I just don’t know when or for how long.

Kind of joking.....kind of expect it

According to this , the new rules are they can hire NCAA approved agents even out of high school.
Maybe I'm reading wrong.

Top recruits can straight out of high school, which I think is a good move for any kid wanting to be one and done. To me this allows for feed back from more then one professional avenue. I still think the rule also goes they can attend the NBA camp if invited and return to school where as the NBA camp took place during the return deadline I think either way it was a good move.

Baker to me doesn’t have the talent or skill to be an impact player at Duke. I think he should and will be recruited over every year.
Sound like a THR reject to me. I don’t know who came up with the recruiting over line, but that’s stupid. You either win the starting job or you’re a back up!

When is the BB banquet?Isnt this when our players make their decision?Expect we will have answers by then.At a minimum I expect Tre to go to the evaluation process and think he should.

Recruiting over is one of the more dumb things on THR.

Roy recruited over Seventh with Coby, over Nate Britt with Joel Berry, over Sterling Manley with Bacot, etc. etc.

Every single school does it.

Tre should have no choice but to come back. He has to develop a 3 pt shot to excel at the next level.

I’m really glad you came over here. It’s nice to have a Carolina fan that doesn’t act like a couple other ones.. haha

And it's not really even recruited over. UNC (and Duke) recruit the best players every year. Not some years.
