So you say something stupid, get called out for being stupid, then you try saying you were trolling… hmm where have we heard that before?

Profound.

I think you guys need to accept that all the motivation in the world and bringing in the greatest possible coach that isn't Taylor or Sanderson is gonna change the attitude towards Iowa right now.

Everyone is ready to see Iowa fade away and become "just another program" like they are in all other sports.

And I mean f***ing everyone, and I truly don't believe that you and other Iowa fans honestly grasp the magnitude of that fact/reality.

The top recruits are done looking at Iowa as a top program, and they don't care who is coaching them.

Everyone else is treating Iowa like a black sheep in the sport that just happened to overstay their welcome at the top of the sport.

As neat as it is to be rah rah optimist fan and "never give up hope that we can turn this around and bring back the glory days!!!", I'm telling you right now, no one actually involved in the sport of college wrestling (coach nor athlete) is willing to let that happen, and there's nothing we fans can do about it.

Just sayin...........

P.S. and again, let me f***ing reiterate since people will read this and not believe me or kindly disagree. It's not my f***ing fault that Iowa fans aren't willing to accept just how unwilling everyone else is to let Iowa become a national title contender in wrestling again.
Iowa's [program is in better shape than OSu's was when Taylor took overland look what has happened. Iowa will be back, they will just have different look and wrestling style.

This is a response to the dolts crying about the poor treatment of the brands because they had to sit though video highlights of their losses from nearly 30 years ago.

Hate to break it to you, but Taylor, a level headed adult who seems to be satisfied with his Olympic gold and pile of money likely doesn’t care if we inexplicably played a video of him getting pinned by an ASU wrestler while he was at PSU since no Iowa wrestler could beat him.

Nice original name there AndreTheHawk.
Yeah, he likely doesn't...........but you would know I guess.......šŸ˜‚

Not sure that would "funnier" but yeah we all know you want different coaches.

I am curious, Who would be your top picks (3Head coaches and 3 assistants) for our new coaches? Do you think TnT will be replaced prior to next season?
I think Nolf is the best fit. Dake #2. Whoever else comes out of the woodwork is #3.

I'm a no on Schwab or Metcalf, both of whom have been mentioned here. Not "new" enough or "big" enough. I'm skeptical of Burroughs but could be persuaded. I just don't think Iowa is a great fit for him.

Is Yianni an option for Assistant? Big picture, whoever Nolf wants to hire.

No clue if/when Tom will be replaced. If I were Beth, yes, I'd replace him at the end of this season. Don't renew the assistants, start with a clean slate. The upside opportunity is now significantly higher than the downside risk, given Iowa's tradition, resources, and fan base. Askren is 100% right on that.

Even with the 27-28-29 talent coming in, we'd still have major holes at 3-4 middle-upper weights each year. Brands' inability to field 10 strong weights isn't going away, and that's where PSU has pulled away. We just have an inability to fire on all cylinders under Tom. His ceiling is relatively fixed and his floor is buffeted by all the advantages that Iowa already has.

My two cents.

I don't think you really think that, do you? I have great respect for them as athletes. Ditto Zaputil, Martin, Davis, Penrith, Melchiore, Griffin. Am I not allowed to disagree with any of them now?

Definitely agree about Nolf right now. He’s the only one of the bigger name yong guys who has publicly expressed an interest in college coaching, but only as a head coach, wasn’t even interested in coaching with Taylor. He has an idea who he wants on his staff, and says he will basically use all he learned from Cael on how to build and maintain a top program, which is what Taylor is doing. We will have to pony up for the HWC, because he realizes that a big piece of the puzzle for today’s top recruits. He seems to be smart, well spoken, and well liked by younger guys, and was a great technician. We need to go outside the Hawkeye family for the first time in decades. When it comes to PSU, if you can’t beat them, join them. I don’t know if he will still be available 3 years from now when Tom’s contract expires. Plus, we could sign Tom to another multi year deal well into his 60’s, did it with basketball and football.

Maybe if we got Dake with Nolf and Kemerer I can see that with TNT running the HWC till the end of the 2028 oly cycle. Stars would have to align, but if getting back to the best of the best year in and year is the goal then it would take a tremendous effort on everything that is Hawkeye Wrestling. Heck John Smith is coaching their girls club team! If TnT are our coaches still and dont make some serious changes for next season, even I would be extremely disappointed.

Pretty much agree 100% across the board. Nolf won NCAA's with one good knee, he's as tough as they come. If he's interested, he's the guy IMO, with Kem as an assistant would be nice too. šŸ™‚ Not sure what's up with Keickesen on his international stuff, but he'd be a guy to have around too. (but alas, we know the aggressiveness of the Coach doesnt always translate to the the athlete so......).

Like I said, the tin foil hat wearers don't have to believe me.........the results will speak for themselves.

Yes because that will prove the world is out to get Iowa wrestling? šŸ˜‚

I can’t see I see too many people here or elsewhere who think the glory days are coming back. Iowa can be a lot better, though. Despite these secret, dark forces working against them. šŸ˜†

BTW, for a program that top recruits are ā€œdoneā€ looking at, Iowa sure does have a lot of blue chip recruits committed over the next two cycles. At least 5 by my count. Say what you will about being able to hold onto or develop them (and if you did, I’d agree with you), but claiming they aren’t looking anymore is just blatant ignorance. (That’s my super nice way of saying it’s ā€œreally dumb.ā€)

Sorry that the wrestling program will never be or accept being as mid as the other men’s programs at Iowa.

My point is some people's blue chips may not be another's. There is a fine line. My definition would be someone who has the potential to win right out the gate.

It is.

Win what?

Blue chip generally falls around top 10-15 in the class. Still, I don’t think it can be argued that 4 of those commits aren’t blue chippers.

Regardless, he simply said ā€œtop recruitsā€ which is even less stringent of a standard.

It was a dumb post and that was just one reason why.

Iowa has 5 really good guys but none of them would start at PSU or OSU. How are any of these recruits going to catch them up? These are the level of recruits PSU uses to come in and back fill weaker weights around super stars. Not getting Bo and Melvin sealed the fate of Brands. You can pretty easily know which recruits are the big ones by looking at senior level freestyle results and college open results.
