So from what I see on this Forum, most disagree with the AD. He said on Friday that Frost is not coaching for his job this year. How do you all read into that?

maybe they have 5 qb's in the transfer portal we don't know about?

He has to say that. The idea of Frost not coaching for his job is predicated on the notion that the team was universally expected to get better.

Well guess what, they're not better. In fact they almost look a little worse every month of games. And nobody really expected that.

Now the criticism is reaching a fever pitch, boosters are gonna get angry, parents of kids on the team are gonna get angry, recruits are gonna stop picking up the phone. That sellout streak is dead and it's going to be a BAD LOOK to see Memorial Stadium looking like an Indiana or Purdue game every week.

They're closer to an '07 season, a '17 season than they are to turning it around. Everything has the feel of the bottom being ready to drop out. It was a hard rebuild but the problems this team has are not about talent or experience. They're about being poorly coached and having sloppy practice habits that are allowed to continue.

If they get blanked in conference play like they look fit to do, Trev has no choice. I will be shocked if they make a bowl game this year and Frost keeps his job.

Not sure what you want him to say in that situation. Either way barring a miracle, frost is gonna get let go after the season.

On Friday that's a true statement. He previously said there's going to be benchmarks AND progress needs to be seen.

That all changed by 4 pm Saturday

This.

And, if a competent staff can be found, and if that staff can convince most of the roster to stay, we're a QB away from being a .500 team next year. It's not a tough rebuild from this angle, but it will be excruciating to watch this staff keep getting outcoached.

He probably said something similar about the UNO football and wrestling programs like... “we’ll take a look at it.”

He’s a pro that clearly isn’t afraid to swing the axe - on anything.

The dreaded vote of confidence. It means he is coaching for his job this year.

Trev will fire Frost in a split second once he has the next head coach locked up.

Assessing all the comments so far, I see this going 1 of 3 ways (with the $20 million buyout in mind – which is not exactly chump change this go-around)

1 - Trev will advise Frost to replace multiple assistants with proven coaches who know fundamentals at the end of the season (given that we somehow win 6 games). Frost stays put and gets another year or so. We see where it goes. His buyout would then lessen in January 2022.

2 - Assuming we’re 2-2 heading into Michigan State-NW-Michigan (and if we hypothetically completely crap the bed), Trev lets Frost go and we fork over $20 million, Chinander finishes the season off.

3 - Frost and Trev work out a deal where he “steps down” like Erstad did. Frost is then a free man. But knowing this football program’s luck, Frost goes on to be an assistant or coordinator and has massive success 😂

Frost will probably go to another school and all of the sudden kill it again.

I highly doubt that. Yes, he has failed at Nebraska, but I guarantee his success at UCF will get him another gig. Listen, I'm down on Frost too, but he will land another gig.
no, he won't. his success at UCF was the exception, not the rule.

the highest rank he'll ever hold again in college football will be OC.

I suppose he could get a high school head job if he wanted one.

he will never even be asked to interview for a P5 head job again in his life

he has done nothing to deserve it, and everything to prove he's not capable of performing the tasks required of the title

1 winning season in 6 as a head coach
You got me thinking here. I agree hc jobs just won't be sitting there for him to pluck. What position would he be qualified as an assistant? I'm struggling answering that.

Does he go somewhere and be a volunteer at a big program or ironically an analyst?

he's going to have to hope he has friends somewhere, anywhere

because there is no chance his resume is causing his phone to ring

"offensive guru" has seen his teams' PPG fall every year

It’s the start of the season what do you expect Trev to say..

Trev‘s letting this thing play out what is he supposed to do only having one game played, and he knows sooner than later to make the move to fire SF…

All good points. I could see a few more.

Frost replaces Martinez, settles into calling a more basic game and we win a few games we don't expect. Then we are 6-6 or 7-5, win a bowl and Frost is OK for another year.

Trev gets Osborne to intervene and talk Frost into stepping down for a reasonable buyout.

Frost folds under the career/homelife pressure, wants to move back to FL, and steps down for a reasonable buyout.

The university lawyers find a way to fire for cause for NCAA infractions we have heard about and maybe some things we don't know about.

Definitely realistic scenarios for sure. The $20 million buyout throws a knuckleball into things.

If it comes down to it and we’re even more physically and mentally rock-bottom as a team/staff after 6 games played, Osborne will definitely be involved in the process with Alberts. Your post also reminds me about the major pull that T.O. still has in football decision-making at NU. He might be getting wrinkly but as long as he’s still hanging around, anything he says can still rival a booster’s wallet.

I don’t think Trev needs TO to intervene because he may have just cause by him breaking NCAA rule for a advisor.. He saying he had administrators permission when the AD is MooS who would know the rules and SF knows as well…

SF knew he was breaking a rule just like Harbaugh knew Michigan was breaking the rule..
