I for one am absolutely shocked at how good he looked against the Bears on Thursday. I thought he flashed quite a bit during his sophomore season, but never really saw pro potential in him. And while I do feel he's gotten much stronger in the NFL it makes wonder why he didn't perform well here as an upper classman

I was trying to think of a player who regressed in college and made it in the pros and I thought of Kyle Orton whom I believed got benched his senior year at Purdue.

His name is Siemian and after 5 years, you think everyone would know that by now. He played injured his last two years. I would not call that a regression. There was no one in his senior year that could take his place to let him get off his injury and the line was horrible. I am glad for the kid and I do hope he becomes the starter and get them to the playoffs.

First off, Siemian shows signs of being a better pro than Orton and the rest - geeze, can't understand how so many FB fans can't comprehend that a QB (no matter how talented) needs to have some semblance of talent around him in order to succeed (much less, be healthy himself).

Kubiak and his staff took Siemian's college stats w/ a grain of salt as by looking at game film, could see that the 'Cats were overmatched at the O-line and the skill positions more often than not during the '13 and '14 seasons.

It also helps if he is not sitting on the bench instead of behind center, because we decided to put a guy who couldn't throw the ball accurately past 5 yards and was a better WR prospect in there instead.

We did that because of the weaknesses in elsewhere on the line etc. needed to have a running qb at times or Trevor would be a walking mash unit every week by himself.

Our spread offense didn't fit Trevor! He needed a pro style offense.

It woulda fit a healthy Trevor fine.
Just rewatch the Notre Dame game to see what Trevor could do when he finally was over the high ankle sprain. The previous week, he had led a great last minute drive against Michigan, only to have the two point conversion blown up. He was the KEY player in the Gator Bowl win, leading two big touchdown drives after Miss State tied it at 13. His mobility was always a little underrated because Colter's was off the charts.

We have gone through this a million times and you just keep ignoring the facts. When Trevor started or got most of the snaps in 2013 and 2014, we lost and he didn't play well. There may be a bunch of valid reasons for not playing well (tough defenses, poor offensive line play, injuries, etc.), but in 2013 he had poor games against Penn State (21-36-135) and Nebraska (15-35-116) and we lost both of them. I think the coaching staff wanted Trevor to be the starter in 2013 but after those games they decided that playing both quarterbacks gave us the best chance to win. And they were right. In the only other game we lost that season (against Michigan), both quarterbacks played great and did everything they needed to do to win the game. Kain had a much higher quarterback efficiency rating than Trevor in 2013 as well and that doesn't even take into account his rushing.

I have never seen a better quarterback coming off of the bench for one or two series than Trevor. He helped win a bunch of games in 2013. I hope he becomes a great NFL quarterback. He seems like a really nice guy and it would be great for our program. But he hasn't started a single regular season game yet so I think we should probably tone down the expectations until he actually plays meaningful minutes in a real game. Every NFL quarterback has the ability to be great for a series or a quarter or even a game. Matt Sanchez has had great games in the NFL. It's all about consistency. If he is able to put together a couple of seasons where he has the 10th highest quarterback rating like Kyle Orton, that would be unbelievable.
