I'm as big of a fanboy as there is for this show but outside of the shocking ending, last night's episode was SO bad. The acting and directing was like something from a TNT or USA series.

Love the show. Tons of cliches though. Really hope CF isn't dead and really hope we don't get some suppressed gay angle on this show.

Still optimistic about the rest of the season

I didn't think about the gay angle, I thought he took the Viagra in the first episode because he did get the BJ from the blonde, but maybe I missed the change in timeline.
Last night other than the end was pretty bland, I like Vaughn but not sure he was the right guy for the part up to this point.

I'm not sure what symbolism you guys are getting at with the puddle and crows head? Is it something carried over from the first season? Shame on me, but I only saw the final episode.

Haha, I usually watch most HBO series, or at least see how they look from the get go. I had a lot going on when it aired and just never got around to it.

I am not going to try and compare it to the first season. I am just gonna take it for what it is. I have actually liked the first 2 episodes. 2nd episode was a little boring but the ending saved it. Not gonna go on and on about my theories because I would bored you all to death. But if you like the show and you want to discuss, the-mainboard.com has good discussion on it in the TV section. People on that board really get in to the show. I love to read it and listen to people's theories. I have posted ITT many times during the first season. Last season didn't really pick up until around episode 4, so I will hold judgment until then.

P.S. I am the Yellow King.

Guess I'm in the minority.

I didn't think the first season was as great as people make it out to be. It ran out of steam toward the end. I still thoroughly enjoyed it.

And I didn't think the season 2 opener was busy or confusing. It's not groundbreaking but it looks to be pretty entertaining.

This is spot on. I don't understand the season 1 love. It was good, but by no means great, and not even close to being the best show HBO is currently putting out.

And everybody just relax. We're two episodes in and it's been entertaining so far. No need to try and analyze every goddam scene in each episode.

The last season was good because of the acting and the Woody H. / McConaughey chemistry. The story was ok. It wasn't ground breaking television, I do agree with that.

This season has bland characters and a very flat story so far. Really had a difficult time staying awake through that episode last night.

For the people that really like watching the show and looking for clues. This was in the house of the doctor that Bezzarides and Velcoro went to talk to about Casper (dead guy). FWIW. This is one of the reasons why I love this show and so many theories occur. They are always giving you things to keep an eye out for.

From the underlying tone of the conversations she's had coupled with her interaction with Semyon / Velcoro....and not to mention the visual cues they flood any scene she's in with........I'm thinking she might be a waitress at that bar.

I think that's what they want you to believe, anyway.

What this season is missing is a Marty. A somewhat normal character or at least initially. This season features so many broken people that are messed up. You got the broken corrupt cop with a drinking problem, divorced, and can''t see his kid. You got the tough female cop with daddy issues. Throw in the CHP officer that is apparently struggling from the war and might be a closeted homosexual.

Still love the show but some light would have been a nice contrast to the darkness in the show.

FTFY

And yes...the characters are a primary issue with this season so far, albeit for different reasons IMO. Semyon is the only one I feel a modicum of sympathy towards at this point. I guess that's intentional? It doesn't feel intentional.

They all lack complexity and the writers are showing these character's cards far too early....again this is IMO.

I like the show so far. I don't love it yet but there are still 6 episodes left so I'll pass judgement after the finale. The acting definately isn't up to par with season 1 but I didn't expect it to be.

- I'm not seeing the homosexual angle that some of you are suggesting. I think the CHP motorcycle dude is just effed up mentally from his past experiences in the desert.
- I don't think CF is dead.
- Definitely do not subscribe to the Bill Derington method of watching a min-series. I'm guessing he only reads the last chapter of books as well.

I didn't buy into the gay thing originally after being impotent with his girlfriend. I chalked it up to his time in the military and being messed up. However, the last episode seemed to imply he was drinking and watching a gay prostitite get out of someone's car.

I know CF is scheduled for the whole series but it could just be flashbacks. Not sure how one survives that.

Homosexual angle is definitely there. I am pretty positive on that one. Popping the viagra with a smoking hot chick, then getting into an argument at the bank with the homo and his captain asking why he would do that, then when he is looking off his balcony in L.A. at the gay hustler running the corner. The gay angle is prevalent and will come out in the episodes to come.

He didn't get shot with actual bullets. It had to be either rock salts or bean bags. He isn't dead, imo.

Wait, did I miss something, what makes you think he didn't get shot with bullets? Was there no blood?

Seems like the 2nd shot was meant to kill. CF was already incapacitated.

I'm guessing he had a BP vest on, took the two shots and either survived with the killer walking out, or was somehow able to subdue him.

- Both shots were body shots and I'm sure CF was wearing a vest. That's what makes me think he is still breathing. If the dude had wanted him dead...that 2nd shot would have been to the noggin. I'm thinking he is going to torture/interrogate CF. Time will tell.

- CHP motorcycle dude said he had to go to LA as part of the investigation. For whatever reason he has that spot under surveillance from his perch on the balcony. I think you guys are reading into that too much. Then again, I could be wrong. Once again, time will tell.

Interesting, I thought the same thing when he was on the balcony. It looked more drug/crime related than sex related. Then when people started mentioning it was something homosexual related I just assumed I missed something. Looked like he was ready to go on a bust...

Or bust that ***!

We'll know in a few days

Pretty sure CHiPs guy is gay. He went out of his way to make a derisive comment about a gay guy that was checking him out. He doth protest too much.

Also positive that it'll come out that Semyon was BEHIND the rape of Colin Farrel's wife. That he used that to get CF in his debt.

The only thing I could focus on during the entire scene with bike cop's mom was the herpes.

SPOILER (theory) ALERT

Antigone. When we first meet her, dude is all shocked that she performed some sexual act, but we didn't see what it was. In the ancient play, Antigone hangs herself. My theory: Antigone is into erotic asphyxiation, and will hang herself, purposefully or not. But come the end of the series, Antigone will be hanging from a rope. Book it now.

I think a belt is the most commonly preferred autoerotic asphyxiation device.

Just finished the 2nd episode. Pretty sure 2 shotgun blasts at close range is going to kill you, vest or no vest.

Interviews I have read pretty much clarify that Colin Farrell's character is not dead. I don't want to say anything else so as not to spoil it for others.
