TRUE: Big Ten Says IT'S ALL OR NOTHING to Notre Dame! ND proposed a Hybrid Deal that was rejected.
But they wouldn’t have had the same schedule.A couple of take aways:
It sounds like there is solidarity between the SEC and the B1G on the all or nothing issue regarding ND.
It also seems that ND didn’t learn a thing from their 2025 experience. If they had the same record in either the SEC or B1G they would not only be in, but likely would be seeded above the middle of the pack.
Assuming if they joined the B1G they would play a B1G schedule, etc. But they wouldn’t have had the same schedule.
Considering the sweetheart deal that they now have that automatically will put them in the playoffs if they meet certain criteria, which they certainly will with their weak schedule in 2026 and probably in future seasons, and the fact that they play basketball in the ACC and probably several other sports and hockey in the Big 10, there now is almost no incentive for them to join a conference fulltime.I know it's been asked many times before, but what exactly did Notre Dame expect the ACC to do?? Advocate for a full conference member (Miami) or advocate for a partial member which is only using the ACC as a place to park its other sports teams?? Notre Dame in B1G ice hockey bothers me. They'd be a horrible full conference membership partner.
As the playoff expands to 16 or 24 then the issue of them possibly not making it like this year becomes very remote. So that incentive for them to join a conference because they could get excluded like this year goes away since they seem a shoe-in to be top 16 every year with that crappy schedule. I guess as the playoff expands to 16 or 24 you could start putting the pressure on ND by saying they only get in if they finish in the top 12 or even top 10.Considering the sweetheart deal that they now have that automatically will put them in the playoffs if they meet certain criteria, which they certainly will with their weak schedule in 2026 and probably in future seasons, and the fact that they play basketball in the ACC and probably several other sports and hockey in the Big 10, there now is almost no incentive for them to join a conference fulltime.

Considering how much money these schools are hemorrhaging like Rutgers and even a behemoth like OSU, I think that it's a only a matter of time before that happens. We ALL should have a hybrid deal. The power conferences for non revenue sports is a waste. Do we really want to be flying the girls soccer team, soccer, field hockey, to California, Oregon, Washington to play in front of 200 fans? It is a waste of money and time. Non revenue sports need to get their chit together or be eliminated. Soccer, field hockey ect should be playing a regional schedule vs Pitt, OSU, Syracuse, Rutgers, Temple, UMd, Lafayette, Lehigh, Bucknell, Lasalle, Penn and Villanova. The games will actually attract MORE fans because both teams fans can attend and costs will go down.
PS. Any sport averaging less than a thousand fans should be eliminated.
The problem with ACC schools colluding is that most of them like Pitt want and need to play ND at home because it's one of the very few games in which the attendance actually looks somewhat like a big time football game; just look at Pitt's attendance for their non-ND games, including Miami, and the ND game. At a place like Pitt, even glamorous schools like Clemson except for 2021 and FSU draw rather miniscule crowds. As the playoff expands to 16 or 24 then the issue of them possibly not making it like this year becomes very remote. Beyond this, it just comes down to money as it always does. If NBC keeps giving them these lucrative TV deals that pay them more than what a B10 or SEC member school makes for being part of a conferrnce then there is no incentive for them to go to a conference.
At that point then what you have is let their ACC relationship run its course through 2036. Then all the P4 conferences including the ACC would have to collude or agree to essentially blackball Notre Dame by not scheduling them because they are not in a conference. I guess it could happen earlier than 2036 as schedules are done like 5 years out or whatever but that may not be legal, who knows.
I checked: 68k for Notre Dame and an average of 49k for the other six Pitt home games. 2025.The problem with ACC schools colluding is that most of them like Pitt want and need to play ND at home because it's one of the very few games in which the attendance actually looks somewhat like a big time football game; just look at Pitt's attendance for their games this past season for all non-ND games, including Miami, and the ND game. I guarantee you that that 49K figure for the non-ND games was intentionally inflated probably by about 20 to 25K per game, because there's no way that Pitt averaged 49K per game. If so, most of them came disguised as yellow seats.I checked: 68k for Notre Dame and an average of 49k for the other six Pitt home games. 2025.
I was wondering myself, 49 seemed high. Lol the disrespect Pitt gets on this board, dang.I guarantee you that that 49K figure for the non-ND games was intentionally inflated probably by about 20 to 25K per game, because there's no way that Pitt averaged 49K per game. I'm actually a Pitt grad; it's not disrespect from me but just reality. Their attendance for most games is embarrassing. That's why they're going to downsize the stadium by closing the upper decks and putting tarps up beginning in 2026.I was wondering myself, 49 seemed high. So Penn State wrestling should limit its schedule to schools like Lock Haven, Clarion, Bloomsburg, Drexel, Lehigh, and Pitt? Cael would love that.We ALL should have a hybrid deal. A sport like wrestling is a little different because there aren't as many road matches compared to sports like soccer and volleyball. Also, I don't even know if the West Coast Big 10 schools have wrestling teams; I don't recall PSU wrestling UCLA or USC.So Penn State wrestling should limit its schedule to schools like Lock Haven, Clarion, Bloomsburg, Drexel, Lehigh, and Pitt? Cael would love that.
Yes that could be an issue, these lame P4 programs that have weak fan support. Pitt is a clear offender. Stanford could be one. BC another. The problem with ACC schools colluding is that most of them like Pitt want and need to play ND at home because it's one of the very few games in which the attendance actually looks somewhat like a big time football game; just look at Pitt's attendance for their non-ND games, including Miami, and the ND game. and the horse they rode in onF Notre Lame
Dumb post but that is your MO.
1. Wrestling is not drawing 200 fans like field hockey and soccer.
2. PSU wrestling ALREADY wrestles ALL the schools you listed during the Cael era. They wrestled Drexel and Lehigh this year They wrestled Clarion a year or two ago. The backups were at the Bloomsburg Open last week.
3. Drexel and Lehigh were closer matches than North Dakota State(46-0), Stanford(42-0), Indiana(48-0), Northwestern(51-0), Maryland(51-0).
Loch Haven, Clarion, Blomsburg, Lehigh, Edinboro, and Pitt have all produced national champs. I think they all have had top 10 finishes.
YOUR TURN.
Do you think PSU should be flying girls soccer, mens soccer, field hockey to California, Washington or Oregon to play in a small $50 million stadium with 200 fans? That is a JOKE. It is absurd the schools even build these boutique stadiums for non revenue sports. WTF.
The 49K is tickets sold. Going by what Pitt did to Penn State in the last series with them, Notre Dame fans probably found it was more cost effective to buy Pitt season tickets than a single game ticket. It's a sneaky ploy Pitt uses to artificially inflate ticket sales and thus attendance claims. Unfortunately for them, the games are televised and the truth is ultimately revealed.I guarantee you that that 49K figure for the non-ND games was intentionally inflated probably by about 20 to 25K per game, because there's no way that Pitt averaged 49K per game. Still a no. Pitt attendance is based on tickets PRINTED
Agree 100%. I would say 30,000 average.I guarantee you that that 49K figure for the non-ND games was intentionally inflated probably by about 20 to 25K per game, because there's no way that Pitt averaged 49K per game. If so, most of them came disguised as yellow seats.
TENS of millions EACH for their facilities. The three sports you cited lose a combined $4.5 million a year. Travel expense accounts for less than 20% of that.
You really ought to spend more time trying to stimulate your brain rather than your prostate. Alas, I fear it's a lost cause.
I wonder how long the agreement between B1G & ND for ice hockey lasts? Don't renew it. Likewise, don't schedule them in any sport. The Big10 has suggested / asked / prodded Notre Dame on numerous occasions - and always been rejected. In the past, Penn State and PSU MHockey have said - NO, not unless they join for all sports. ND has said NO.
TRUE: Big Ten Says IT'S ALL OR NOTHING to Notre Dame! ND proposed a Hybrid Deal that was rejected.
The ACC is going to get raided how that rolls out is anyone's guess but there is zero doubt they will be raided by the Big Ten and the I'm not so great anymore SEC.A great deal of variables here , if the acc deal changes in 2030 , and certain teams leave then nd has issues . If they don't and nothing happens and it stays the same
That's definitely a risk to them. With changes to conference scheduling, the benefit to playing them is diminished. No matter the cost, ND should be dropped and not scheduled until they join a full conference.
Yes, let them join that SEC hockey league...I wonder how long the agreement between B1G & ND for ice hockey lasts? Don't renew it. Likewise, don't schedule them in any sport.
So the sec is no longer school hunting anymore , and wiling to let the big move into the south ? Hm that is interestingThe ACC is going to get raided how that rolls out is anyone's guess but there is zero doubt they will be raided by the Big Ten and the I'm not so great anymore SEC.
How did you get that from my post I said the SEC would also raid the ACC.So the sec is no longer school hunting anymore , and wiling to let the big move into the south ? Hm that is interesting
Because you said that in your first reply . You claimed the big is out for any acc school but the sec not so great anymore ? That why I askedHow did you get that from my post I said the SEC would also raid the ACC.
"zero doubt they will be raided by the Big Ten and the I'm not so great anymore SEC."
That is not what I said they are hunting they just aren't quite the power they once were. While we will still have to battle for the likes of a UNC the last two years their on the field prowess isn't what it was. IMO the Big has passed them in that respect. Sorry if my post was confusing. So the sec is no longer school hunting anymore , and wiling to let the big move into the south ? Hm that is interesting
