Our President is an idiot but he will be our President for at least another 1300 odd days and then has a 50/50 shot of winning another term. I think it's better for everyone to get a few jokes in and move on.I think I missed something in the past few days...probably too many activities with my son I guess...what is all this noise about?

You guys should have nominated a better candidate then. Maybe the commie could have won, IDK.Just additional evidence that this country has elected the dumbest phuck ever to occupy the WH.
Trumplethinskin said the Civil War made Andrew Jackson angry. Which is a neat trick given that Jackson died 16 years before it started. Also said nobody ever asked why we had a Civil War. He's not only insane. He's an idiot.I think I missed something in the past few days...probably too many activities with my son I guess...what is all this noise about?

I don't think your statements on what he said are accurate. Seems to me he was saying had Jackson been President later that the Civil War wouldn't have happened...that he saw the division of the country coming/happening.Trumplethinskin said the Civil War made Andrew Jackson angry. I'm betting you think that the moral arguments against slavery were the main cause of the CW.
I'm betting you think Northern aggression was the reason for the CW.

TRUMP: I mean, had Andrew Jackson been a little later, you wouldn't have had the Civil War. He was a very tough person, but he had a big heart. And he was really angry that -- he saw what was happening with regard to the Civil War.
I think Trump was referring to the Nullification Crisis which some feel was a lead up to the Civil War.I think his (RPJ's) statement is accurate.
I'm guessing you think the Civil War was all about States' Rights. Regardless, TTS thinks nobody ever asks why. What a buffoon.I'm betting you think that the moral arguments against slavery were the main cause of the CW.
lol. Are you on his payroll?I think Trump was referring to the Nullification Crisis which some feel was a lead up to the Civil War.

I'm not trying to spin it...he never said Jackson was alive during the Civil War per Doc's post - "Trumplethinskin said the Civil War made Andrew Jackson angry."I never tried to spin it as well he meant PR, American Samoa, Dc, etc. I laughed.

Did Trump say that the Civil War made Jackson angry...it's yes or no question...did he say that?“Jackson was really angry that he saw what was happening with regard to the Civil War.”
That is very plain. Trump is an idiot. Don't be an idiot by trying to defend him.
Very true. Dems are just as responsible for this as GOP.You guys should have nominated a better candidate then. Maybe the commie could have won, IDK.
Yes. And you are being your usual self. Just wait until Trump says something wrong about Daniel Boone.Did Trump say that the Civil War made Jackson angry...it's yes or no question...did he say that?

Don't know if you watch the show "America: Fact or fiction." The way they laid it out (from congressional documents at the time) was that from the Southern states is was about slavery, which the general population didn't necessarily agree with. Most southerners couldn't afford slavery. On the other hand, the North's motivation was to preserve the Union. President Lincoln didn't even sign the Emancipation Proclamation until the North won a few battles and felt like victory was more likely. During reconstruction the notions of slavery (North) and State's Rights (South) was promoted to make the healing process and history a little tidier. That probably wasn't the best summation of the show on my part, but that was the general idea put forth in a half hour episode.I'm guessing you think the Civil War was all about States' Rights. Regardless, TTS thinks nobody ever asks why. What a buffoon.
Hold on sugartits...you havent won yet.Just additional evidence that this country has elected the dumbest phuck ever to occupy the WH.
States rights was at the center of the reasons for the Civil War to be sure. But was the major issue that drove the incendiary debate over the power of the Federal government? Slavery. Compromises were made, yet the issue kept being thrust into the national spotlight. For many it was such a giant issue due to humanity and morality, for many it was an issue because it was going to define what rights a State had in relationship to other states, and for many it was about allowing there to be issues upon which the federal government needed to build its strength. The War of 1812 was still in the minds of many. The weakness of the Union was a pressing issue. For Southern States, the desire to continue an economy that depended on slavery was at the forefront of their concern to preserve more power over the direction of their State than the Federal government could wield. States rights? Yes. Slavery? Most certainly. In the end, Trump was wrong.....a compromise really couldn't have been reached. It was tried. The Union was weak, and needed to assert its strength to survive. Southern landowners feared losing the ability to base their economy on slavery, and they needed to break with Northern abolitionist sentiment in order to survive. The Southerners that went along with the break, imo, did so out of love of their traditions and communities, and not so to preserve slavery as much as to prevent a powerful federal government.Don't know if you watch the show "America: Fact or fiction." Great show, IMO, with a lot of historic mythology debunked.
The root cause of the Civil War was economics. The issue of slavery (no wage labor) was just a subset issue, as were tariffs and such. Lincoln had no love for slaves for black people in general and was a racist old codger who'd have sent them all back to Africa if he'd gotten his way, he his driving concern was to preserve the Union not to free black people from bondage.
It's pretty damn simple.
Without slavery existing prior to the Civil War, there would have been NO CIVIL WAR.
